Villy is still getting used to our kitten, and when he's wandering around the house, if he gets too close to her, she hisses at him. They are only allowed to be alone together when they are supervised, the rest of the time they are kept seperate until they are used to each other. What should I do when Villy hisses?

A friend of mine had the same problem when she introduced a new cat, Gabby, in the house with Hope. It was so bad that Hope would claw and bite Gabby who was pretty submissive to her. Thankfully, it got resolved on its own after much hissing. I heard that you can't really discipline a cat, so I would just supervise them when they're together and hope that they get used to each other. On a little side note, Gabby and Hope took about 6 months before Hope decided that she was alright.
Grumpy old lady...

Just ignore him. I used to say "Why are you hissing at her?!" when Rosie was doing it to Sophie, but then she'd run away like i was shouting at her and i wasn't so i stopped saying anything, and i didn't say anything when they hissed at Jack either.

The hissing will stop, because Sophie has now. Hang in there because it will calm down

When any of my three get into a hissing contest, I hiss at them all myself, in a loud hiss.

It stops them in their tracks, they look at me, then wander away from the confrontation they were having.

I'm the top cat in my home.
(But I don't do any head bopping, I'll leave that to the furballs.
)

Thanks, so far I've just ignored her, but watched, just in case. I'm still giving her lots of fuss and treats, so she's knows she's still very special. They keep eating each other's food when they think I'm not looking!

Oliver used to hiss and growl at my black lab when I first brought him to my parents'.... it has since stopped on it's own - they're not best friends, but they co-exsist... but when he's doing something bad, I will hiss at him because although he thinks he rules the roost, I am mama cat as far as he's concerned (and right now, he's got his grandmom and grandpop - my parents - to deal with and it's their house, so he's low man on the totem pole, haha)... it should stop eventually on it's own... as long as they're not injuring each other, I wouldn't worry and just let it work itself out naturally

I'm having that problem as well at the moment.

Just tonight i caught Jack eating the adult kibbles, and he needs the kitten ones, and Rosie certainly doesn't need anymore weight on her by eating Jacks!

Just keep fussing over Villy like you are and she'll soon realise she's still mums little girl

I'm glad it's not just me! Neither of them have weight issues, but one has kitten food, the other has food for a sensitive stomach, so I do make sure that they each eat some of their own food each day to make sure they get the right nutrients!

Wait, are you giving her lots of fuss and treats when she hisses? If so then you are rewarding her and she isn't going to stop

My cats hiss at each other all the time. It is normal, it is how they tell each other to back off and leave them alone.

I was also inadvertantly reinforcing "bad" behavior by trying to comfort one of my upset (and hissing) cats. If that happens now, I just try and stay out of it unless it escalates to and out and out battle.
