My little Angel is still suckling her own belly, one particular tit actually. She does it as soon as anyone starts petting her. She purrs and kneads while doing it but I really would like her to stop. We're already trying to discourage her from doing it by putting her down every time she starts, giving her wet food and keeping her head up when we do hold her but nothing is working. She's about 11-13 weeks old, spayed and healthy, on part of the tit being extended out due to the suckling. It's getting quite annoying now because she wakes us up all throughout the night for us to pet her and then she flops down and starts doing it!
Help?! Will this go away on its own when she gets older?

Plus, now Tiger, the boy, is starting to suckle on my fleece blanket. Kitten drool... ew... He kneads and purrs as well but it's only when we're petting them that they start doing this.
What in the world?

One of my cats does the same thing. She's 3 years old now and still doing it! My thought as to why she started was when she was at the adoption centre, there was one female adult cat and a bunch of kittens. The kittens would all go and suckle on the adult even though she wasn't their mother. The people that worked there let this continue without trying to stop it so when I first brought my kittens home, Pansy was trying to suckle on Tulip but this just caused a fight so she just started doing it to herself. I talked to the vet and they told me she'll grow out of it. But she hasn't. I don't think there's anything I can do about it now.

I'd put a dab of Bitter Apple on the area. It prevents them from licking/chewing on things you don't want them to bother.

I had a foster kitty that would do that. I took an old (but clean) men's gym sock...cut the toe out (and hte long part up the leg) and it made a little jacket that fit over her (covered the whole area between her legs). And she wouldn't suckle on it. Gave the skin/area a bit of a break.

do you think this would work for a lactating mom with a 9 wk old kitten? I can tell she is almost dried up, but she LOVES him to suckle her! I was thinking something like a body suit or some such might work, never thought about the sock! I need her to dry up so we can SPAY her and will at the same time get him neutered! but I want him OUT of the habit of suckling before it happens!
