Hi there. I am new to this message board, and I actually sought you out because I have a bit of a problem!

I live in a mobile home park. I have 3 cats, and one of them lives outside for the most part. We feed her outside, and it has attracted a few stray cats to our yard. They are not always around, but there are about 3 of them that i have seen, coming in to get something to eat. We have been trying to see how we can catch them and take them to the humane society. Well, now we have 3 kittens that are hanging around. I havent seen their mother in a while. I put some cat food out and the kittens came running up, they are skinny and really skittish.

I lured them inside my house with food, and then lured them into my office (so they can be away from my other cats). Now, they are in here (this all happened this morning) and I dont know what to do about them. They wont let me touch them. They are probably only 6 weeks old (if not younger) but they eat normal cat food. I dont know what to do with them. Currently they are hiding behind the computer desk. I called the animal shelter and I am not within city limits, so they won't help me. I have to call the county animal control. Which Im not so keen about doing. Does anyone have any advice??

They will let you touch them eventually, if you are patient. Now they are just frightened...

Can you take care of them for a couple weeks? I would go in there and talk to them, and try to pet them while they eat. I would wrap one up in a towel to hold them (so they can't scratch) while you pet them and love them. This is how I got Marvin to trust me (he was feral until 5 months old).

It will be a lot easier to find them homes if they are domesticated.

Hi and welcome to TCS.

Something else you can do is contact vets in your area. You may just be lucky enough to come across a vet nurse or vet tech that works with orphaned and abandoned kittens like I do. These babies are definitely still young enough to be socialised into loving, trusting kittens and, for me at least, they qualify as abandoned and in need of some hand-rearing. In the meantime, can you afford to buy them some kitten food? The adult food doesn't nearly contain enough calories and nutrients to keep a growing kitten healthy.

I'm in Australia, so can't help you with finding a vet or no-kill shelter but I wish you lots of luck with these babies. They deserve a chance and you are a great person to give them this chance.
