Does anyone have one of these?

I've only seen it on eBay. Thinking about getting the Scoopfree automatic litter box, but the replacement boxes are $$$$ esp. with shipping (best price I've found is the 3-pack on amazon.com, strangely cheaper per pack than the 6-pk
due to free shipping on the smaller pack)

Hello,

I live in the UK with my 4 ragdoll boys...I get to the States every 2 months on business, and the last trip, I picked up 2 ScoopFree litter boxes---they are VERY COOL---EXCEPT---

I found out RIGHT AWAY about the cost of the replacement cartridges!!!

With my 4 20lb cats, it was costing me 4 refills/month (and I had to pay to have them sent to me by international POST!) so about 90-100 $ US/month!

That's the only thing that kept me from telling my UK cat lover friends about ScoopFree.

Well, I found a company that sells a PERMANENT replacement for the cardboard cartridges, in the US, and I ordered 2 from the website, and just got them. NOT the company you were talking about---the box I bought is fully hinged with steel, and made from unbreakable ABS (like motorcycle helmets!)

They work great, and will save me about 75$ US/month on litter fees. Check them if you are a ScoopFree owner or future buyer - It makes it worth having!

They are called PermaScoop, here

While I was in the US, I also saw a new DETOX collar for cats! It's called something like CATOX--I will pick one up the next time I am in the States, and report here...My oldest cat (9yrs) has diabetes, and I would like to try the detox, to help him out...

By the way, they are 10$ US less than the model you mention, and they take credit cards directly....

***These are only MY opinions, and I have no business interest in any of the products--I just LOVE cats and gadgets***

bye for now,
Tuvo

Just word of caution: I will not be ordering from Permascoop again. I ordered a tray and a PermION from them and I never received the later. They ignored my emails again and again and their phone was disconnected. Very shady in my opinion. I had to get my creditcard company to refund my money since Permascoop had basically disappeared. Buyer beware I guess.

I love the forever tray. I dump it out whenever I wish, scrub it out in my garage utility sink, dry with paper towels, and refill.

I have tried different crystal litters but Target usually has the Fresh Step crystals on sale for 12 dollars per 8 pound bag once in a while. I stock up. I buy the fresh step because of my preference, my cat couldn't care less what litter it is- as long as she can dig in it.

I only have one cat who eats lots of canned food. I change the litter twice a month and use 8 pounds of crystals per month. After a few months I started saving money over changing cartridges twice a month.

I probably sound like an advertisement but the scoopfree and the forever tray have totally eliminated any sort of kitty smell from my house and I have much fewer dealings with kitty poo/pee.

Here is another reason I continue to pay for a Costco membership. Check out their price for Fresh Step: Under $10 for 40lbs!

The bags you show in the photo are clay litter -- not crystals. These will not work properly in a Scoop Free box, and will actually damage it.

My neighbor (who uses this system) recently went on vacation and we were taking care of their cats, and the first time in to check the box I was horrified to find that they had made the same error.

Clumping clay litter will cause the rake to bend and eventually jam the mechanism and eventually burn the motor out -- so please make sure you use crystals.

The best choice (and most available) crystals I've found have been the Pet Essentials brand from Target -- most recent cost $11.49 for an 8lb container.

Hope this helped!

Yep. I only just realized this when I opened the bag. I'll be getting crystals instead. I guess Target is still the best deal.

I'm thinking of modifying the ForeverTray and the ScoopFree system:
1. Cutting a hole in the tray where the feces collect.
2. Raising the ScoopFree assembly on a wooden box made of 2X4's.
3. Attaching a plastic bag from the grocery store under the hole to catch the feces.

The collected feces will be less odiferous as they are "hidden" below the tray while giving a little longer before the tray needs to be cleaned and re-crystallized. I expect I will lose more crystals like this and will require crystals to be added a little more frequently. "What do you think?
