Recently my fiance & I have noticed our 14 year old, Tigger, seems to be losing weight. She's always been a small cat, probably never weighed more than 7-9lbs. We plan on taking her to the vet this weekend, but I'd like to see if anyone had any suggestions on what could be wrong. Is this something that happens as cats age? Could it be some type of chronic illness setting in? She still talks to us a lot, jumps on things, and doesnt seem to be in any type of pain (like my one cat was when he had kidney failure).

We hope she's fine, but we'd also like to know what some of you all think as well.

Please get a senior blood panel and make sure thyroid is included ... your description is similiar to many "senior" issues

I second what sharky said. Weight loss is not a normal part of aging and is indicative of a problem. Many of the senior problems can be treated or even cured. Also, if you can afford it, I would recommend having a urinalysis done as well.

Thanks. I will definitely ask them to do a senior blood panel, and ask about getting a urinalysis done as well. We definitely want to do everything we can to make sure she continues to lead a happy life in her senior years. I would have had no clue what to ask the vet about!
