A local Humane society was having a special on microchips for $10. Non of my animals are chipped. I decided to try it out on my dog before I do my 5 cats to see how it works. Well I went to register the chip online yesterday to find out the chip number is already used! I called the chip company (24PetWatch) and yes they confirmed that chip number is already used. They said I need to call the place where we had it done because they may have put in wrong info. I am waiting for the humane society to open but I am upset that my dog is registered to someone else. Has this happened to anyone else?

How awful!

I know one of the shelters here uses that 24 pet watch chip, but my vet and most of the others I've contacted uses Home Again.

Hope you get it worked out.

It is probably a typo. Take your baby into the Human Society and explain what happened. They can read the chip and give you the number.

If it the same number that you were given before, call 24PetWatch and explain it again. They will need to contact the other owner to verify that they didn't enter the wrong number or that the other person didn't give them the wrong number. Until it is corrected, they can list both contact info for that number.

Oh how terrible! Three out of four of our dogs are microchipped. Our vet uses Avid chips. I plan to get the cats done soon. Hope this was just a typo. Let us know how it turns out.

Everything is all sorted out now. The owner of the other chipped pet miss typed her number. I even had my dog scanned to make sure her number matched the one I had and it does. So my dog is now registered to me. I am relieved it is fixed but I sure was not happy finding out my dog was registered to someone else.

At least it's taken care of now. That's why I like having my vet do the registration. I don't have to worry about messing it up.
Glad to know you had a happy ending.

A Humane Society here was offering a special for microchips for only $10 (they regularly charge $20). I decided to try it. My vet charges $35 and then there is a fee for registering. The chip is inserted with a needle. Each chip has an i.d. number. When you register that number is registered to you with your animals info. If your animal is found it can be scanned and then they can call the chip company to get your info to contact you.

There are different brands of chips. My vet uses HomeAgain and the humane society used 24PetWatch. 24PetWatch does not have a registration fee and HomeAgain does. There is also Avid. I don't know others but there are more brands.
