My latest rescues went in this morning to be spayed. Turns out Squirrel at her young age was with kittens. I opted for the unpopular choice of having the kittens euthanized. With squirrel's young age, I did not want to chance having her go to term and then delivering still born kittens, or perhaps losing her in the difficult birth that happens sometimes. I talked it over with the vet, and also told him that probably the father was Gangster which would mean more problems down the road. Sometimes, I hate what I do. Today is one of those days.

Oh, Hissy, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sending you lots of ((((hugs))) and hope your spirits rise! I believe you did the right thing for Squirrel with her being so young.

Oh, Hissy, I'm sorry you had to make that difficult decision. You know it was the right thing to do, but I totally understand how you must feel. I don't know how you do all the great things you do without going insane. It's not an easy task. You are an absolute angel and I'm hoping the days ahead will be filled with happier things.

((((HUGS)))) You did the right thing, even though it was a very difficult decision. Squirrel is way too young to think about motherhood, and she has been through so much health wise already. Giving birth probably would have killed her.
I'm so sorry.

Oh Mary Anne, I am so sorry you had to make this decision. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for you. I think you did the right thing although I know it must have broken your heart. My thoughts are with you.

(((((hugs)))))

Thanks guys, you all helped make me feel better.

I know I did the right thing, to many times I see or hear of people who allow their young kittens to give birth. It causes such a myriad of problems, anything from stillbirths to the death of the young mother. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the thought of losing Squirrel- she is such a personality here. She has literally become the fridgedoor magnet theif. Everyday I find a magnet tucked someplace out of the way in the house. It is almost like a game of hide and seek with her. LOL

To have something happen to these ferals that is out of my control, is one thing, but to purposefully endanger their life because of the cuteness of kittens- nope, I will not go there. That is being an irresponsible cat caretaker.

She is indeed back and right now she is at the window trilling at the resident gray squirrel who is out by the walnut tree!

When they are chasing each other in the tree you are hard pressed to tell who is who! I can tell she wants outside to join him so she is feeling much better!
