) but I'm not that into Harry Potter... I read up to the middle of #5 and quit, I dunno, just got bored. It seems that everything is all the same, in the fact that the mood was depressing the whole dang time and Harry just seems to get more depressed and more depressed... LOL. Just not my kind of book, I guess... I loved the movies though, my favorite so far is the Prisoner of Askaban one... Haven't seen the new one.

#5 is the most depressing of the series so far... but i like that they're not all 'sunshine & roses' - makes the story's universe seem more real.

Are those books any good by the way? I've seen a couple of the movies after they were out on television, but I've never read any of the books.
i like the way she's written them. the first books are much more surface, shorter books - suitable for younger readers, then they get progressively more difficult and intense. very similar in some ways to the way the "Little House" books are written. in that series [if you've never read them] the 1st book is very easy, elementary level reading, while the last one is really more adult level, reading-wise [not meaning steamy love scenes]. makes them good at 'hooking' younger readers, & then leading them into more difficult reading, because they're interested in the characters [can you tell i'm an educator?

I preordered from Amazon, too. But for some reason I was under the impression that they weren't going to leave it without someone signing for it.
My hubby BETTER sign for it. He TOTALLY doesn't understand.

I won't be queuing up at midnight as I need my beauty sleep but I'll be along to collect my reserved copy at 9am Saturday morning (and if previous experience is anything to go by there'll be no queue). Then I'll try to read it slowly to savour it and if I'm lucky it'll last me into sunday. The cats will have to amuse themselves.

Oh yes... my husband and some friends are going to go and have fun at the party.

This is the end of an era. I'm so excited that I get to be a part of it.

Hm, maybe that's why my 13 year old is so into the books. She's read every single one of them.

My 10 year old read books 1-4, and then stopped. She said 5 and 6 were just too long. Too sad too (in her words). She cried when she found out who died in #6. We've got all of them (waiting in line on Friday for the last one) so maybe in a couple of years she'll pick them up.

I must be seriously missing out. Everyone I know is obsessed with those books (I've never read one)... Just curious, are they that good? I need new reading material once I am done with my witch and vampire chronicles????

Yep, I'll be there.
My sister pre-ordered the book and wants to be there at midnight to get it. She took me to see the new Harry Potter Saturday night and it was GOOD. I have never read the books (my sister does) but I've seen all the movies. The new one was really good.

I just started picking up reading lately... Right now I am reading Anne Rice's The Mayfair Witch Chronicles (The Witching Hour... which I am almost finished with, Lasher, and Taltos)... after I am finsihed with those I am going to read all of her vampire books... After that I will need more vampire books to read... I love witch and vampire type books... Ill have to check into those... Oh and the Harry Potter books... Im so lame, I havent seen any of the movies (other than bits and pieces of the first one).

It's hard to answer that question really, as it depends on so much. They are kids books, esp the early ones so the protaganists start off age 11 and grow up during the series (each book follows a school year). They got longer, more complex and darker as the series progresses - the kids are growing up and plot wise things are building up to the final confrontation so they are more young adult from about book 4. However, I enjoy reading young adult fiction as a lot of it is very good (I do read adult books too!). I really like the HP books. They're not war and peace, but they are very enjoyable imo. If you want to read them, I do recommend starting with book 1 as, although each book does contain a self contained story, there are story and character arcs that span the series, so don't be put off if you try the first one and find it too childish. The first 3 can be read very quickly.

Oh I like simple reading very much so that will not be an issue whatsoever... The movies looked good but I wont watch them unless I go through them in order (otherwise I will be lost). After my Anne Rice chronicles Im sure Ill will be ready for a simple read (her books take me for ever with her over description of nature and the fine print... Oh and the thousands of pages
)

I've seen all of the movies (except for the new one) but I haven't read any of the books. It's hard for me to start a book that big.

They only look intimidating. Once you start reading, you can go through 100 pages and not even feel like it has been that long. I always read them saying, "I'll stop when I get to the end of the chapter.... Ok, I'll stop when I get to the end of THIS chapter, ..." and so on. I expect I will read the entire thing this weekend. I don't know how long it is though...

That sounds like a great idea, but I will be rereading 5 and 6 before I touch 7, so it will give me an incentive to read faster!

Nope, not me
Don't get me wrong, i love harry potter and all, but i can't justify waiting in line for it to come out and missing sleep when i can get it a few days later without all the lines
I plan to get all the books and read them when i get time. I've heard they're wonderful. But until then- i do love the movies though!!!!
