Fading kitten syndrome

What are the causes, and is there no cure? Is it really the same as SIDS in babies? I'm very worried about this. Please everyone post your experience with this, thank you.

I have had to much experience with this. There is no cause, and no cure. It just happens www.kitten-rescue.com has some information on it.

I had my first experience with this when Spock had her babies. The first one didn't really "fade"...although its death was sudden. The second one was perfectly healthy when it was born, then it just started declining. It wouldn't nurse its mother, and its eyes wouldn't even open. I felt so bad because I wanted to help but knew I couldn't.

We recently experienced this with one of our barn cats. Her smaller kittens just suddenly went down hill and were gone within 24 hours. We even put them on meds and the vet didnt know what it was but gave some suggestions. I know he never said anything about FKS.

We took in a lil barn kitty from someone else just a week ago and I was baffled to find she too passed away within 24 hours. I just don't get it. How can they be healthy and then just BAM thin, lethargic and gone before you even know there is a big problem?!?!?

It just is upsetting cuz I loved this lil baby we just lost. She was so sweet.

I read on a breeders website about this recently. She said that after having several litters completely wiped out by the syndrome she swears by giving all newborns some type of supplement. I can't remember what it was, though. She says it has completely eliminated this sydrome from her litters. I will do some searching and add it here it I find it again.

Here it is. It is LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS. Has anyone else tried this. I would be curious???

It's given for milk intolerance. I gave it to one of my children after antibiotics wiped out her good bacteria in her gut.
