Lately Reeses has this habit of following me into the bathroom. Because of health reasons it's a common day to day stop for me and alot of times, she'll know (or atleast think) that's where I'm headed, run past me and beat me to it. She doesn't do it to my wife, only me, and nothing I do can get her out of there usually. I usually try and go in, then leave, and she'll follow me and run past me. I wait until she's far enough away and then I'll hurry back and shut the door. Once she came running after me and I accidentally shut the door right as she ran into it...ouch...needless to say she left me alone for the day. What's funny is it could be 2am and I'll get up, and no matter where she is (usually she's under the bed), before my feet hit the floor she'll give a really loud meow like "Yay!" and bolt past me into the bathroom.

What does she do when I relent and let her stay in there? She'll walk around my legs, lick me, she purrs constantly, she'll sniff the curtains in the bathroom, itch her head on the toilet shutoff valve, or just flop down on the floor and stare at me. Then when I go to wash my hands, she lays down in front of the sink and I have to push her out of the way, then she goes to the door and sits there waiting for me to open it She'll turn around and meow at me as if to say "Ok lets go!" and then she leaves with me. Then usually on the way back to the bedroom she spends the rest of the short trip trying to grab onto my ankles as I'm walking back to the bed *lol*

Do any of your cats do this?

Where my cats are
My girls do follow me to the bathroom. Sometimes I have to wait till they are in there to lift the lid (TMI I know, but DH and I don't shut the door unless we have company) or someone will take a dunk as the run in there. Or I'll have the lid up a bit and they come stompin on it and knock it out of my hand.

Once we're in there Mooch likes for someone to hold the mirror and make a light reflection for her to chase. So that's what she comes looking for. Mostly they just rub on me or lay by my feet....or in front of the sink. Sometimes they go in the tub and sit, or play behind the shower curtain.

It doesn't bother me that they are in there. I kind of like that they want to be with me.

Oh I have an audience that includes a dog too

Tonka is the worst though. He will do the same as Reeses. Flops on the floor and wants his belly rubbed.. which of course, I can't resist

Jake will sit right in front of me and stare..... blankly....
Which creeps me out at 3 in the morning and it's dark and the only think you see is the reflection of his eyes
Or when Tonka slinks out of the bathroom closet in the dark.
All I see is the door slowly opening and a dark figure slink out and along the wall.
It took me a few good scares to get used to him doing that.

ETA: I also have a lifeguard when in the shower/tub. Duke thinks Im gonna drown so he sits on the side of the tub and meows loudly which just draws the rest of the brats in to see what all the noise is.... Kinda creepy to step out of the shower and have 5 pairs of eyes staring at you.

She only does it to me though and that's what I can't figure out. Maybe it's because there was one time where I caved and let her stay in there instead of trying to get her out where as my wife will get her out at all costs no matter what *lol*

But of course too, she sleeps in the bathtub during this time of year so she probably feels like that is her room too now *lol*

One of my cats (the lap cat), always has to follow me because she knows there will be a lap available while I'm sitting there

I keep telling her that she doesn't see me trying to sit on her lap while she's using the litter box.

Thats just sooo funny.

Our toilet is just so tiny I hate closing the door. Diego makes it rather awkward coz he (how do you say) stands on the bowl, well puts his front paws on the bowl and stares in, so gotta stop mid stream several times to tell him to P/O. I'm sure one of these days I'm not going to be able to stop in time

Dh accidently peed on Bo one night!

I remember waking up to hearing the shower running at like 2am. I get up to see a half awake husband giving a 4 month old kitten a bath. The only thing he said was " he just jumped right into it"

is this some sort of trick question? OF COURSE they follow me to the bathroom - usually in serial fashion. i live alone, & Firefox's litterbox is currently in the bathroom, so i almost never shut the bathroom door if i'm in there. first Chip visits, then Cable, or Java, or Firefox [altho sometimes she also goes potty
] & on rare occasions Pixel deigns to poke her nose in.

Sometimes I'll have to share the seat while I'm trying to use the facilities.
Pekoe will hop up and nothing will move him, so I'll kind of squish on to the remaining half. Then both of them will crowd around to watch me flush. If I'm not fast enough, Nigel will try to put his paws in the toilet bowl, regardless of whether it's clean water or not...

My dog April has been coming to the bathroom to see what I'm doing for 14 yrs. She pushes the door open, looks & leaves. My 10 m/o kitten, Blossom, also comes now & most of the time she uses her litter box at the same time.

Zissou either sits on my lap when I go, or she runs to her litterbox so we can go together.

My mom accused me of doing this... any time she was in the bathroom was when I needed something right this second, especially if she was blowdrying her hair. I guess Zissou just takes after me.

Twitch comes in hopes she can play in the water. Lily comes & sits in whose ever lap is there.
Damita comes to either play in the shower or tub. Dorky comes as he can lick you're ankles & you cannot run away. Molly comes to rub on shins. And Ophelia comes so she can bite you.

Oh yeah! I live alone and haven't gone to the bathroom by myself in about 15 years, LOL

If Abby isn't in there with me, Chynna is. Mostly Abby though. Chynna will come in when she first wakes up or if she's awake and I go in there. But Abby will wake up and go with me each and every time I go.

And the kicker is that when I go in there to do my business, Abby usually does her's at the same time too

Karmas does this too. Sometimes she will use the litter box, its right next to the toilet. Its quite cute using the potty with my girl. You know girls always have to potty together. Other times she will bite my toes hust to watch me jump. No matter what thogh, when I am done and have flushed the toilet she jumps up on it and starts to bury it. It's like she is trying to show me how to take care of buisness.

I am so glad you created this thread! Daphne is a complete bathroom kitty. The litter boxes are in there so sometimes she will "go" with me. She always sits on the counter, directly next to the toilet. She will kiss me or want lovins. As soon as I stand up, she is right there to watch the water flush. She has fallen in twice

When I shower, she walks around the edge of the tub outside the shower curtain (its a free-standing clawfoot tub). When it was so hot earlier this week I filled the tub with a few inches of cold water in an attempt to keep the bathroom cooler. That evening I heard a SPLASH and Daphne tore out of the bathroom like a wildcat
She was soaked. She looked at me like I had something to do with it. Couldn't help but laugh til I cried as I was drying her off. She was hilarious.

When she is tired, she will follow me and then lie down on the counter and wait for me. Its as though it is her duty to protect me from the bathroom monsters.

After she has an incident, she slowly goes back to the bathroom, looking for whatever it was that made her get wet. She stalks, an intense look on her face and will jump at the slightest sound.

Seb sometimes follows me but he will just sit and watch then leave with me. I love my weird kitties

Mine have never been allowed and don't try, thank goodness. Radar is an ankle/leg biter - he only does this to me, not Nate, but he gets so excited at the sight of my bare legs that he has been known to leap up and sink his teeth into my thigh
- but trust me there is no way I can safely sit with my trousers round my ankles in his presence and I'm not going to give him a chance to get at me when I'm that vulnerable
