For the third time my DC adapter as gave out!!! I went to get it fixed again... another $100!!! I told the tec guy I didn't even care if something happened to it, I'm about ready to throw it out the window!!! It's two years old and this has happened three times already!!! (Dell Inspiron 6000) Does anyone have any advice about which laptop I should get next? It needs to be a good gameing computer like this one.

Wow! I'm having the same problem! I've just replaced my AC Adapter for the fourth time! A few months ago, I had to have my entire motherboard replaced because the pluggy in hole quit making any connection with the adapter. I have a Dell Inspiron 2200.

I have a Dell laptop right now and I'll never ever buy another! It's functionality has been okay, but the material it's made of seems very cheap. I've had it for 3 years and it has a broken hinge (how, I'm not sure because I rarely move it) and the keys/palm rest have "worn" spots on them.

I won't even get into the poor customer service at Dell Financial Services. Those people are so disorganized they can't keep their heads on straight. When I ordered my computer, they called me with a question, I called them back and answered it. I get another call a few days later with the same question, called them back to say that they had already called me and I returned their call with the answer. They apologized and said they would process my order. A week later I get a call from them saying that they had tried to get in touch with me regarding yadda yadda yadda (the question I had already answered...twice)....but I never returned their call so they were cancelling my order.

I never had any of these issues with my old Gateway.

In my own world, its much nicer there
If I remember correctly my mate had a DELL PC or laptop, which became munted and he had to send it to OZ to be fixed, had wait 6mths to get it back and cost more than $1,000 to fix. I'm sure it was DELL. Anyway he told me not to buy one coz no repair shops in NZ.
But I think all computers incur a problem or 2 during their life.

The AC adapter for the Inspiron 6000 is actually identical to the AC adapter used for the Latitude D series (D600, D610, D620, D800, D810, D820) which are the computers used here at Dell headquarters by the majority of our employees. Many of these systems are 3 years old, and most don't have the same problems with their AC adapters. The bricks are generally pretty solid, and I am very surprised that you've had to replace them three and four times.

Also, why is it costing you $100 to replace the AC adapter? You could order that kit directly from Dell for $40US.

If you'd like to talk to me, just put "ATTN:John" in the subject line.

And to the OP, if you're looking for a good gaming rig (an aspiration I share with you), the XPS M1710 would be the way I'd go if I had around $3000 to invest. Another few hundred would get you this monster complete with 20-inch widescreen. If I had around $4000, I'd go with this beauty from Alienware. The only problem I'd have with that one is that I'd probably ruin it by drooling on it!

My problem is not the AC adapter it's the DC adapter. I can't order any sort of kit because that means I would have to take my whole computer apart turn my motherboard upside down and solder a new DC jack on..... No way can an ordinary person do that. I did call Dell about this problem and it took me 3 months of arguing with them, buying an AC adapter $40 and that was not the problem. After talking to many people via phone, email, complaints, and online chats they called me and told me it would cost $700 to fix. I know the part is a $20 part max so I told them that was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. They insured me that it cost that much and I said I could get it done for $100, needless to say they told me to get it done there then!

My Dad has the Inspirion 2500 and had to have the top replaced twice and it's back to being broke. The AC cable has gone caput on it twice and he's relaced that....twice. He hates it so my Mom uses it now. I have the Desktop Dimension 4400. I love it. I've upgraded the hardware so the inside doesn't have many original parts. The only thing I haven't touched was the motherboard. LOL I uninstalled everything that came with it program wise then installed what I wanted on it. It runs all games, programs and whatever else I want it to do. I guess you could say it has a Dell shell and that's about it.

I had a Gateway, it died in a year. Then I took it outside and finished it's death off. It was a hunk of junk.

I secretly want an Alienware computer. I've heard great reveiws on them.
