I want to share this since I've gotten so much valuable information on this site...

This morning I noticed a small yellowish discharge (sort of like pus?) on the corner of Ginger's right eye. A little concern but didn't want to make a big deal out of it, I cleaned it and leave for work. Told hubby what happen and ask him to check her eye again before he leaves. 2 or 3 hours later he called & told me he didn't see any discharge but her right eye seems red & swollen, and she doesn't seemed comfortable. I decide to call vet and she managed to squeeze me in @ 3:20. I went home to pick her up, notice even more pus on corner of her eye and that side of her head is swollen. After some questions and a wellness exam, vet said it was definitely bacterial. She administer Fluorescein Stain, send me home with an antibacterial ointment to put in her eye every 8 hours, if I can.

Because of the irritation of the eye and the ointment, she keeps her eye half open. Poor kitty
. When we came hom the first thing she did was sleep. Her brother seems to know she's not well as he stays close to her the rest of afternoon & night. The ordeal didn't affect her appetite.

If it's the same eye ointment we get from the vet, it does wonders. I'm not real good at putting it on, but my husband (who grew up on a farm and is basically a vet wannabe) says the trick is to make sure you get it right on the eye, as in holding the eye open and squeezing the ointment on it. I have a problem with that because I'm afraid I'm going to poke them in the eye with the applicator.

Eye infections can get nasty but they clear up pretty quick with that. Good luck!
