Right now I am a homemaker as I do not have a work permit for here in the US. But I did do some voluntary work at Goodwill Industries. Back home in New Zealand, I was a full time student, majoring in anthropology and political science, and when I go back home, (hopefully VERY soon), I plan to finish my degree and study law. I would like to be a human rights lawyer or a disability rights advocate. New Zealand is in dire need of a code for people with disabilities. The USA is way ahead of us! Being here has been a learning experience and I believe I can take that knowledge back home to New Zealand and use it.

Gee, Kiwi, You volunteer at my favorite shopping place, Goodwill!

I have said in my profile that I am a social worker. I work with people with disabilities to help them in job searches and training.

Before I volunteered at Goodwill I had never shopped there, I didnt think the quality of the clothes would be that great, but when I did, I realised that they were picky, even if there was a tiny little stain, it had to be sent off for salvage (made into rags) so I was impressed with them. Unfortunately, when you volunteer there, you cannot buy from them, so I had to go out of town to get clothes from there.

Where do you work as a social worker?

Well, I am a self employed Graphic Designer . I have been designing professionally for over 18 years....however, I have been an illustrator all of my life....since I could hold a crayon in my hand. Now—I am a Die Hard Mac Head!

I design for companies throughout Florida and, for the past 7 years, all over the world. I design logos, brochures, CD covers, web sites, magazines, catalogs, billboards, etc... I also build concepts and designs for trade shows... that sort of thing...pretty much anything that requires marketing—I'm the chick in the background actually creating it - LOL!

This for the past 8 years, I have spent most of my time designing for various companies in the Broadcast industry—like Fox35 (Orlando) , the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum —Other companies like Mackie, Shure, Telos, Omnia, Alesis, Armstrong, Comrex, to name a few, I design full color Magazine and tabloid advertisements...they run in publications like Radio World, MStreet Journal, etc...

We also have another company called Garage Storage Cabinets...basically, it is what it says—LOL! Here's a link if you want to see. Garage Storage Cabinets

So, that's what I do....hope that wasn't too long—winded.
<Grin> Me!? Long-Winded?!? Not So!

I'm an Administrative Assistant.( basically a psuedo wife for a man who is a boob and needs a woman to figure it out!
) I keep track of our Independent Distributors profit and purchase and security, answer phones, recruit people, clean the office, put the boss in a good mood when he is in a snit, watch his cat, do all the jobs no one else will do. Help him install, put together, find, or figure out things he can't or won't comprehend!
I also handle all the bad checks, and make sure they get taken out of security. I take care of a lot of personal things for my boss. Mail out bills, call and schedule appointments, find out what something costs or if they have it ect.. I enjoy my work. My boss is really fun to work for!!

I have a degree in education from Longwood College in Virginia and taught for 2 years at the Math and Science Center. I too decided that I was not cut out for teaching and had no class management skills. I loved coming up with new lesson plans and hands-on teaching methods but didn't like actually teaching them!

So...now I have my own business on eBay! I sell Kitty Oats primarily and sometimes clothes. Kitty Oats are my own brand of cat grass seeds
Its doing pretty good and I am in the process of trying to get my product into pet shops. http://www.KittyOats.Com if anyone is interested
.....plug!

I also am an admin for my boyfriends email marketing company part-time.

I'm a computer technician, but the job market has been plotting against me for the past few years, and I've got more experience in customer service, which I hate. I'm currently working on getting my A+ certification, which will hopefully help get me into a position I want.

Ain't that ever the truth wrapped up in one sentence! I am the Lead Teacher in a Title I (low oncome, federally funded) elementary school. My job has no description, per se. I am a liason between the teachers and the administration. I work with kids on an ad hoc basis. I also perform administrative tasks that need very much to be done, yet the 2 official administrators don't particularly care to do them. I hope to be wearing an official administrator's hat next school year.

My background is in GIS based mapping and data systems used in the agriculture industry (soil maps, yield maps, data regressions, etc.) and crop sciences. But about 2 years ago I decided to take a break from it and work for my church.

I started as a receptionist and got moved into the media dept. What I get to do... I do script research and casting for our drama program. I do graphic design whenever they will let me! I help coordinate video shoots and do some video editing and production. I help keep track of video/audio/projection equipment and supplies and do some equipment maintenance (I have a lot to learn yet). And of course -- all other duties as assigned.

Wow - how cool! And I MUST agree - Nenners, that was GREAT!

Hubby and I are partners in work. We run the "Institutional Equities Research Department" for a mid-sized brokerage firm. Hopefully we're about to move firms. We are also publishing analysts, and I have a professional designation, "CFA." CFA = Chartered Financial Analyst. The professional organization that you have to join to be a CFA is the Association of Investment Management and Research (AIMR). It's a three-year post-grad thing where you're required to have three years of work experience in addition to passing all the exams. It's kind of like a CPA except for finance instead of accounting. Although I have to know accounting too - just not as detailed as an accountant. I apply my knowledge of accounting to how it affects a company's reported earnings as opposed to figuring out their taxes.

Publishing Analysts. It means we conduct research on publicly traded companies, pick out ones we like or ones we hate, and we write up reports, create earnings, cash flow and balance sheet models, and publish the whole thing with a recommendation - buy or sell.

Institutional. It means our customers are the people who manage money, not individuals. I'm sure you're all familiar with mutual funds - maybe you've heard of hedge funds? The people who manage the money/run those funds are our customers. Like the people you see on CNBC.

Gary and I received what I consider to be a great honor, and in the Sep/Oct edition of the AIMR newsletter they wrote up a two-page story on how Gary and I got started in the business (travelling the country in the RV conducting research, visiting companies, etc.) I posted it here: I am really, really proud (really, really long)

If you feel like seeing what we actually publish and going through all the hooplah to see it, I just looked. The Gilford site really sucks and almost all the research is not on there, but Gary and I wrote the AMETEK report that's up. It's not even the most current one! It's in the "Proprietary Research" section under Research (you have to sign up - but you don't have to wait for anything to be e-mailed. It lets you in right away). http://www.gilfordsecurities.com

Oh - and in my spare time, I'm a cat site addict, and I'm working with Christy (okeefecl) to get two charity sites up - one in honor of Samoa (thread is a sticky in the feral forum), and the other a research site that will have links and research and presentations for people who want to lobby their local communities to change current animal control policies in favor of supporting TNR programs and low-cost spay/neuter programs to help cut down the stray pet and feral cat populations.

Gary and I also care for feral cats around here and practice TNR and provide food and shelter to all cats who come and go. We help rehome the kittens when we can, although we're really starting to get a local network going.

I do on-air radio.

You know, those people that you hear talking on the radio?

Yeah, nice UNSTABLE business, but where else do you get paid for talking on the phone to people and listening to music?

Wow, my dream job. I talk on the phone and listen to music. Plus, it would leave time for the websites (Carrie640, I'm not making fun of you. It really is my dream job).

I always wanted to do radio, too, but now with technology, the business is more unstable than ever. You can pre-record your 5 hour show in like 20 minutes...leave..and drive down the road and listen to yourself. Our company owns six stations all right here in Lansing. Between midnight-6am, there is ONE person babysitting all six stations. Just ONE station is going live. That is 5 potential jobs that do not exist

Well, I am just embarrassed to say what I do for a living...although many of you already know since I have mentioned it before....I work in a factory, just eeking out a paycheck every week. That is what happens to people who don't finish college. I actually went to college for 1 1/2 years, just arts/sciences (basic stuff) and was going to continue on, although at the time I wasn't sure in what field, but then I met a man (my x-husband) who convienced me that I needed to drop out of college and get a full time job, and so I foolishly did (every parents nightmare) and so here I am now...37 years old...working in a factory for almost 14 years, making almost no money....I make the same as someone who has been there for only 5 years, since that is top pay there.

But...it IS a job...and it does help to pay the bills.

Kassandra....I am very familiar with ISO, we are ISO 9000 registered at the factory I work in...and I have been involved with ISO training and on the internal audit team here.
I also was the assistant quality control person for awhile, (QAS) until I got tired of some of the stuff (people) I had to deal with and gave the position up. (a few years ago) Now I just work in the manufacturing part, making heating units for various companies.

Renea....Good luck with your book!!! I think that is awesome that you are writing about bullying and I hope it gets published!!!
