When I post a new thread, I have the option of choosing my email notification and subscription under additional options. No matter what I choose, it doesn't work. It doesn't subscribe me. I have to go back to the thread, click thread options, and click subscribe to thread. THEN it works.

Have you tried setting your subscription options in your User CP? It's very simple and then you don't have to think about it each time you post or start a thread -- only when you want to do something different. In case you haven't had a chance to check that out, you'll find it under Settings & Options/Edit Options. The second panel of options is Messaging and Notification, and the second item there is Default Thread Subscription Mode. There's a drop down menu there that's similar to the one that's available when you post.
