My cat has taken up a new and seemingly strange habit of sitting on the counter-top in my bathroom. She just sits there starring up at the window (Which has a bug screen + blurry glass) and occasionally reaches up to scratch at it. She can't see outside the window, because it's too high up.

I've tried to see what she's interested in, but I could not find any bugs behind the screen, nor anything interesting beyond the blurry glass (In fact, the bathroom is located next to the neighbour's wall so there wouldn't be anything interesting to see outside.

She does this in the middle of the day, or in the middle of the night with no preference for either one. She does it whether the window is open or closed. She just...stares up at the window...

The only other thing different about the bathroom is that right now it's going through some slight renovation of the ceiling. That means there's some bits of dry-wall dust settled down on the counter-top, toilet and walls, and there's a few drops of dried paint lying here or there, but I didn't consider it to be too significant, because my cat stares outside the window as opposed to at the ceiling.

Is there any reason for this? She's an indoor cat and the window wouldn't be any good particular place to listen for other cat calls.

If there's dust around she can probably see tiny particles of it moving in the air by the window - although for some things their vision is not as good as ours, they can detect movement of tiny particles much better than we can, especially if sunlight is coming in. It must be like going to the movies as far as she's concerned

You took the words right out of my mouth.
I know if my babies see the smallest little fleck of dust in the sunlight they become fasinated with it.
