I found a kitten at my mother's house. Well technically, its going back and forth between my mom's yard and the neighbors yard. I was unable to get near it, but from what I could see, it looked to be about 6-8 weeks old. Very small, but fast. I'm going to see if its still there tomorrow.

Any advice on how to go about catching it or getting near it? I would like to take it to the SPCA, as I saw no collar.

In them thar hills...
food...........

good luck.....

someone more knowledgeable than me will reply so hang on......

But seriously, If you see it in the daytime, let it see you put food out. Keep food in that same location every single day and it will get used to you. Put the food on it's path that it takes and slowly move the bowl over the course of several days toward your house. Once it is used to eating at your house, it will be easier to tame.

When you see it eating, talk quietly to it. Since it's young, hopefully things will go easy.

It's hard to say how long it will take before you can pet it or touch it. If it's never been touched before, it might take a while.

As far as trapping, I have no experience in that. Other's will guide you..

Avoid to look directly at it. to stare at is hostile in the cats world.

Short looks. Look mostly a little aside of it.
Looking at, you may try to blink slowly like friendly cats do.
And you may likewise try to yawn.
But I suspect yawn is more among good friends...

The above posts offer the best advice.

As for the SPCA, be prepared to help pay for its vet costs. But it is very nice of you to help out :-)

There's no place like home
And please talk to your neighbor to make sure that she isn't already caring for it. She might be more closely bonded with the kitten and if so, you can suggest that you help her catch it. You might also ask if she is getting the mom spayed.
