Brooklyn, a year old cat, has been giving off this red discharge from his left eye. The eye doesn't look swollen, and he doesn't seem bothered by it. We bought "eye wipes" specially made for cats and wipe his eye about every other day. What could this be? I know we'll have to take him to the vet--but what should I be ready to hear it could be? I'll try to get a picture if I can. We just wiped his eye so it wouldn't be a good depiction of the problem.

PS: it's not a bloody red. More like a gooey pinkish color...

I know exactly what you're describing because my Mia has the same problem. She's had the discharge since she gave birth when I was fostering her. I've since adopted her and she's been to the vets, had all her shots, checkup, spayed, etc. We asked the vet about it and he didn't seem concerned, but since it still continues to this day (weeks later) I still wonder if I should be. We do the same thing - wipe it each day. It doesn't seem to bother her, there's no swelling, no other discharge, etc. Just the occasional red spots in the corners of her eyes. I'd be curious to see what it is as well. Maybe someone here will know.

It is possible it is feline herpes. My Dorky Fish was just to the vet this am as his "normal" discharge turned to his eye swelling shut. I dose all my cats with lysine which helps control herpes & flare ups.
