One of my friends just called. She said that her Mom had dropped off some Sockeye Salmon, and that she didn't want it because it looked "gross".

I almost choked on my coffee.

Sockeye Salmon... gross... talk about a sin of epic proportions.

She offered to bring it over for us to cook because she knew I would know what to do with it!

One man's trash is another man's treasure! Michael and I are going to be eating well tonight!

EDIT: Here's a pic of what the salmon looks like: http://www.deliciousorganics.com/recipes/salmon.htm

How could something that color not be good?

I love salmon I cook it quite regularly , you just need to bang it in the oven season it and put some put on top of it.. works a treat.. and maybe make a sauce to go over the top like Mushroom, Leek, cheesy cream sauce..

I love salmon! How are you going to cook it? I often have salmon (usually just the frozen fillets 'cos they're cheaper) and like to cook it very simply so I can enjoy the flavour of the fish.

I'm going to bake it with some seasonings and butter. For something like this simple is better.

When we first moved to the PNW, we didn't know what salmon was
My mother decided she didn't like it, so we didn't get to try it until we were older.

First time I tasted it a boyfriend had cooked it in the oven. It was a whole fish (minus head & insides), he placed some type of mayo concoction inside the fish then wrapped it all up in tin foil and baked it.

I was in heaven! Loved salmon since. Think it is an unwritten law to hate salmon out here

Yumm! Sounds like you hit pay dirt!

When I cook salmon I place it on a double layer of foil, slice onion, a tablespoon or so of butter, some lemon juice, some fresh ground black pepper and some fresh dill weed or a good sprinkle of dry. Wrap it in the foil and bake at 350 degrees until done...I judge doneness by how it smells...probably about 40 minutes I guess.

Now I'm craving salmon and all I have is canned

I have some frozen and we want to try cooking it on a cedar plank. However have to run up to farm to get the cedar-those small planks they sell in cooking store are so overpriced!!

Copper River Salmon though pricey is awesome too.

Over the river and through the woods...
OMG, I LOVE salmon! Thanks for the links with all the receipes, because I have to salmon fillets in the freezer and don't know what to do with them. I've never cooked them before. I do have one question about salmon (and fish in general)...if they are scaled, do you cook the skin left with the fillet, or do you have to take the skin off?

I love salmon- we get it once a week at work and its awful but Epona and I often get some from the really good fishmongers at Borough and it tastes great

Where you get you salmon from can make all the difference, especially if you can get the non-farmed Scottish salmon

My Mom lives in Alaska, and she can actually go out, catch the fish herself, clean it, and then cook it.

Trust me... that is what I'll be eating in heaven.
