Am considering ordering a higher-quality food for Zoey. She is on Nutro Natural Choice Indoor Kitten, and I love the availability of this and I think it's a great food for the price. It's the highest quality dry available to me locally. But I have dug up some brands that appear to be really good brands, and are within my price range. I was curious as to, given these brands, what you would choose? If I switch, it will probably be to one of these. They are good foods, and like I said, fit my budget. Sharky, I would appreciate your input on this. I'm having a hard time making up my mind on a few, and added some more good brands within my $$$ range just for the heck of it. Please help out!

By Nature Organics
California Natural
Natural Life
Chicken Soup
Felidae
Natural Balance
Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care
TimberWolf Organics

I switched from Nutro Natural Choice indoor to California Natural and my cats love it. The kibble size is large so that is a plus with my picky eaters. They are doing great and their coats are nice and shiny!!!!

From what I have learned they all are good brands, some for more reasons than others. My best advice is email the companies and get samples and see which one your cat likes most. Go from there. I wish you the best of luck. I only wish I had that many options but limited income makes it tough. Thats where the samples come into play. If Karma really takes to one brand I will figure out a way to get her that food.
Definately listen to Sharky, You will get the best advice.

I've fed all of the above. Our shelter feeds Royal Canin; I don't because Jamie is allergic to it.

Ya'll have all been great!
Thanks for your opinions! Sharky, I think I would totally fail at feeding my baby if not for you. You are phenomenal!
I think that I'll look into samples of the below...

California Natural
Chicken Soup
Felidae (Chicken & Rice)

These seem to be very high-quality brands within my price range. Sharky-- I seem to have a hard time finding the exact link to contact a company. They don't list e-mail address, I don't think. Should I call them to contact them?
And I am extremely glad that you highly recommend Natural Life for wet, because this is available at my Wal-Mart for a very affordable price.

Thanks again ya'll, you guys have been extremely helpful!

I noticed you didn't mention Wellness in your list. Do you not particularly like that brand and why? Just wondering... I recently started my cat on it and maybe there's something I don't know about it that I should?

Okay, those are my choices for dry. These, below, are what I currently feed for wet.

Nutro
Natural Life
Meow Mix
Fancy Feast

If I end up ordering her dry food (once I get samples and decide on what I want to switch her too) I may end up ordering some better wet too. Here is what I was considering:

Eagle Pack
Natural Balance
Natural Choice
Pet Gold
Chicken Soup
By Nature Organics

Sharky (and anybody else who would like to chime in!) can you tell me which of these you would recommend (price is still a big part of this, as well as nutrition, looking for a good balance here) and if I didn't put one down, please tell me what you would recommend.

TickyTat: price is still a big part of what I am considering feeding. Wellness is not in my price range, though I've heard excellent things about it!

Oh gotcha. Sorry, just thought that maybe it was a bad brand or something. I have also considered the ones you mention. Let me know what kind of luck you have with them. Thanks!

Of those, my cats only really like Nutro Natural Choice. We haven't tried California Natural or By Nature dry, but they are $$$ and/or hard to get. Everything else we've tried, and they definitely like Nutro best.

Does Chicken Soup do canned too? I think what I'm really leaning towards is...

DRY:

California Natural & Nutro Natural Choice

WET:

Natural Life - Nutro - Meow Mix - Chicken Soup

Sharky.... your thoughts?

Of those my cats liked Natural Balance (chicken & liver pate only), Nutro Natural Choice Indoor (chicken & senior flavor only), and Chicken Soup. But my cats don't like the same thing every day, so those are foods I bring back into the rotation when they get bored of their "regular" stuff. We haven't bought chicken soup in years. No one near us carries it.

I ordered By Nature pouches during the recalls, but the guys didn't like them.

Edit: I saw that you are leaning towards Natural Life wet, if that's the one at Wal-Mart, my cats liked the Seafood & Veggie Platter flavor.

I think I'll mainly stay with Nutro, since it's available locally and good priced. But California Natural seems like an excellent brand, and I would like to try it. And Zoey gets a great variety of food as a youngster, so she won't be finnicky in the future. I think we have a new plan.

PetCo Online carries Eagle Pack, Natural Balance, and Royal Canin (wet). Our PetCo manager is extremely nice, and I'll see if he'll start carrying atleast 2 of the 3. I'll also see if he doesn't mind ordering California Natural for dry... he's real nice, and I bet he will. We'll see.

If you wanna call TimberWolf Organics (Serengeti) here is the phone number: 1-407-877-8779 I have called them they are very helpful when I call their email is [email protected]

Sharky TO if you buy online through them is 20$ for 8lbs free shipping. If you are worried about buying online you can buy at most Wal-Marts and other places reloadable Visa cards just for online shopping.

Another option for online buying is Amazon.com petfooddirect lists on there but the shipping is usually cheaper because of Amazons shipping scales are better.
