i had to move katie into a crate today to get her to feed her kittens. before she would only go feed them for a couple minutes then leave them.

That's not so bad... I had each of my girls in a dog crate and that's where they gave birth and stayed with the kittens until they kittens were old enough to be out all the time. Actually, my current litter that will be 3 weeks old tomorrow is still in their crate. That way, I can close momma in with them when I think she needs to be in there, or I can leave the door open and let her go in and out as she pleases.
