New with a question...

My name is Angie and I am a jail nurse. I have two wonderful cats (one is a Siamese that is 18 years old) and I just adopted a kitten from the animal shelter. The kitten was listed as a tan colored DSH. He had very short, coarse hair and looked out of place among the cute, fluffy kittens. I didn't think he had a snowball's chance in heck of being adopted and that was one of the reasons I chose him (he also purred when I held him). When I brought him home, my husband noticed that his coat had more spots than stripes. When I took him for first shots, the vet commented on how unusual he looked. Since he has gotten a little bigger, the spots have become much more prominent. His coat has gone from wiry to silky smooth, and he doesn't really shed at all. My question is: do tabby cats have spots? Or have I maybe adopted something else? Thanks so much.

Do you have any pics of the color pattern? My kitten has calico and tabby traits... Some parts of the orange tabby that show in her are kind of spotted.... Would need a pic... Oh and welcome to TCS

Hi Angie! Welcome Thanks for adopting this little guy. If you get the chance you might want to post a photo or two along with your question in the Breeder's Corner forum. The knowledgable people there may be able to help with the coloring question

Otherwise, we all just adore photos around here! Please do post them if you can. Cannot wait to see this little guy And your older kitty too!

It's so nice to find other "cat people" out there. And you've all been so helpful. I went to the link with the spotted tabbies and he does look a lot like that. I wish I could post pics, but I'm very low tech...don't have a digital camera...can't wait to show my husband the tabby pics, he thinks I've brought home some kind of ocelot (lol).

Hi! Welcome to TCS! I didn't know tabbies could be spotted either. Now, some of my kitties coloring makes more sense.
