Is your cat a Bengal? Just wondering, as they tend to have more sensitive tummies than other breeds or mixed breeds.

Back at the beginning of 2007, Ferris, my DLH former feral, was having serious loose-stool issues, and the vet also recommended low-residue dry. That had zero effect on fixing the problem.

However, the Bene-Bac worked, and worked SO well, that this is when I began looking into dry foods that contain probiotics, and wound up choosing Nature's Variety Raw Instinct.

Later on, as it turns out, the loose stool issues that Ferris was suffering from can almost certainly be pinned upon the contaminated food that I had been unknowingly feeding him. However, he's done so well on the Raw Instinct that I continue to feed it to him, and my Bengal, Penny, adopted in May of 2007, took to it quite well.

I strongly recommend to folks that they try probiotics for loose stool issues - it really made a huge difference for my boy.

I too have a ragdoll kitten with this persistant loose stool. I got her in September from a cattery in Mass. (she is now seven months) and she has had this poop problem since I got her. It's horrible. I have spent hundreds of dollars on antibiotics and none of them have worked. We are now in the process of sending out a sample to check for Tritrichomonas foetus. If this ronidozole treatment really works, I will mention it to the vet if she finds no other cure.
All I can say is I work two jobs and coming home to poop all over my house (which I do not own) every day has been a terrible experience. I spend so much time cleaning up after her, its ruining our cat/owner relationship.
I have a maine coon as well, and I am praying she does not get this disease, or I will lose my mind!

I wonder if ragdolls are prone to this illness? If you dont mind me asking, did you happen to get your ragdolls from a overpopulated cattery in Mass?

They have no other symptons besides the diarrhea. We tried metronidazole and Albon, and neither of those worked. We finally put them on ronidazole (treatment for presumed Tritrichomonas - their stool tests were negative, but the vet decided to treat with this drug anyway), and it helped my male kitten temporarily, but he is right back to where he was before we started. The female (knock on wood) is fine now.

I started doing some research and found this website: http://www.vitalityscience.com/Default.asp?Redirected=Y I called yesterday and actually talked with the owner, and he suggested two of his items based on the history. I haven't gotten the order yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works. I'm so frustrated with this whole situation.
I'm sick of cleaning up diarrhea all the time, and the vet can't seem to find the cause. And I feel so sorry for my male kitten too.

You may want to check out that website, but also run it by your vet first to get their okay. Good luck to you!

lmao well i thought i was pretty fortunate in that my new bengal boy wasn't having runny stools until i woke up this morning and found that my brothers bed was covered in his runny stools T__T.

Where i think i went wrong was that my bengal boy seems to think that my other cat's regular dry food is a super tasty treat so i feed that to him as a treat and since last night was clicker training...........he ate a lot of it. I'm putting him back to his normal diet exclusively and maybe that will do the trick.

PS: i feed him Eukanaba kitten and Iams (hairball) worked perfectly until today

PPS: if it doesn;t fix the problem, could anyone please link me to a site where i can buy the probios?

I bought probios on Amazon, it didn't work for me though. I'm going to try Eagle Holistic Transitions and Solutions next which I both bought on ebay.

When we first brought Winston home he had persistent runny poops.
And it wasn't just loose, it was like water.
My husband said it stank to high heaven too (I don't have a sense of smell so wouldn't know, but you know it's bad when the kitten pulls a "Stinky face" at it's own poop lol) It got the the point where I would have to WASH the litter tray every day because it was everywhere.

After numerous visits to the vets(and 3 months) and antibiotics it got a bit better, but was still bad. Nothing seemed to be working.

I decided to take a look at their food and do some research. They was on SD. I as you already know, read about fillers and what not in "brand name" pet foods that boast they are the best, so went and spent an hour trawling the petco isles and came across http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/

The boys went on to the kitten formula and Winstons butt cleared up in 3 to 4 days of eating this food. (This is after .. hmm 3 months of the runs?) Normal poops! And both the boys coats have benefited from it. Shine like you would not believe. They acutally sit and pick the veggies out the mixture and eat them first heh.

Just goes to show, you are what you eat! lol.

I wonder if the difference is that the Cator&Pollux has less grain? Did you try any grain free products before having success with the C&P?

Here is the Information on the ingredients of C&P. It says it has no "No Corn. No Wheat. No By-Products. No Ethoxyquin, No Fillers."
Compared to the ingredients in Scince Diet which to a novice like me just looks like slop. It's all "Flavours" and "By products".. I'm not too sure *what* exactly they mean by the by products but it just turns my tummy at trying to guess.

This was the first food I tried other then science diet. The only reason we had them on it is it was what they was on when they came to us from the rescue. The rescue was recommended this by the vet. While other then the runs, they did look healthy and grew well on it, I tend to think it's a lot of hype about how good it is, I think it is more a money horse for the company and vets alike.

THis is not a low grain... likely the cats had corn , wheat ,soy and by product issues... my issue with CP is cats DO NOT need fruits all it is to them is sugar ... ohh and the quality of some of the grains... mainly oat groats

My Samuel has had diarrhea for one year and 4 months. We have tried everything. We are just now switching his food to Natural Balance green pea and duck formula. We are not quite completely changed over yet, but his diarrhea is much better. I think this food looks promising. There is no grain in it . . . . . only peas for carbohydrates.

I also use a people probiotic. It is called FloraMor and I get it here LuckyVitamin.com I added it about 6 months ago and did find some benefit. If I take it away, everything is more runny. I am about to increase the dose. I have been giving 1/2 of a capsule and I am to increase to a whole one. The vet is working with me on this.

I didn't say C&P is low grain.

NB Venison and Gr Pea is one of the first foods I tried. I saw improvement with it but it wasn't until I started the EP Holistic Solution that Coco's stool became normal. I also saw improvement with California Natural Chk & Rice. In Coco's case I *think* the improvement was because those foods have simple formulas and so are more easily digested.

FAng had gross stinky loose poo when I adopted him and for months until I finally got a vet who helped me. He said it was probably food allergy, to feed sensitive stomach fooe, he also gave him a course of steroids, and Fang has had perfect tootsie rolls since. It has been over a year. He is still stinkier than the other two though. don't know why, same food.

What do you feed him? Be sure include if it is wet or dry.

I have the same problem with Shadow. Still searching for answers.

Let me know if you find anything with Coco and I will do the same with Shadow.

Kind Regards,

Jenkitty

As far as I am concerned, Coco's problem is resolved. I started giving her EP Holistic Solution a couple of months ago and her stools have been normal ever since.

I just read your post listing all of Shadows symptoms. She sounds much worst off than Coco ever was. Coco only had loose stools with a bit of blood.

Wow Coco and Shadow have alot in common. She did the best on EP holistic select Chicken and Rice until she wouldn't eat it anymore because I tried the duck and oatmeal. I have also tried the NB Venison and Green Pea, no improvement though she threw up immediately and wouldn't touch it again.

For some reason Shadow is liking Diamond dry food. This pet store owner my friend goes to gave me some and I asked him today about it because it was for her cat that I was sitting and Shadow broke into the bathroom and ate her cat's food. She did this for a week and now looks at the empty dish waiting for more. So I am trying Shadow on this for awhile. Iams Sensitve Diet worked for awhile but she stopped eating it and I think the other cats were the ones that ate it. I know that Iams is not the most hypoallergenic but it was worth a shot because some of the others that I tried had too much heavy protein.

Keep in touch with me on Coco because it looks like Shadow is following Coco's trend.

Regards,

jenkitty
