Yeah, Coco is a bengal. I also keep hearing about the "sensitive stomachs" of bengals but I've never been able to get anyone to tell me what exactly the nature of this "sensitivity is". With Coco, her stomach is fine, her digestion is the problem.

If she stays away from their wet, she's fine, nice solid stools.
Is Penny a bengal? What does she normally eat that is different from what Ginger and Ferris eat?

Digestion starts in the stomach, so I think "sensitive stomach" is a nicer way of saying "weak guts." It's relative.

Yes, she is a Bengal that I just adopted from another TCS member, Kai Bengals. She, along with Ferris and Ginger, are eating:

DRY
A blend of Royal Canin (What she was fed by her breeder,) Nature's Variety Raw Instinct & Serengeti, both grain free.

WET
Penny eats Sheba Chicken & Duck
Ginger eats Meow Mix Tuna & Shrimp
Ferris eats a variety of Meow Mix flavors, and will eat whatever I put in front of him, for the most part.

Penny also gets 1/4 patty of raw rabbit in the mornings. They are all completely spoiled rotten.

Yeah, I meant I hasn't able to find out if by "sensitive stomach" they meant that bengals are prone to throwing up or prone to loose stools or both. And if this is a breed trait then there should be a common cause and so a common solution and I'd like to know what it is.

Thanks for the suggestion. At the moment I am still hoping to find and eliminate the cause of the problem rather than just treat the symptom. I assume the arrowroot is just a temporary solution? Or are you suggesting it might permanently eliminate the problem?
Quite right, it would just be a temporary solution. Because your cat has had that condition for such a long period its hard to say if the stools would stay firm once you stop giving arrowroot. The longest I've seen a cat with loose motions was about six weeks and it got better, however that was a kitten of about 3 or 4 months old. Sometimes you just try things and they end up working, sometimes not.

I hope you can find an answer for your kitty's problems.

Yes some bengals are prone to tummy issues...

I thought the 'Bengal tummy' was due to something extra in their tummy that means they can't always eat 'normal' food - maybe if you do a search on here it might explain it more and give you some tips.

This sounds exactly like my problem with Molly. The first day days we had her, her poops were orangey and stinky, but they had a shape, but after a week of being on Merrick canned, the smell went away and the color changed to a normal color. At the time, I didn't have the the funds to put her on a canned-only diet, so she went into the dry-only diet that my other two girls were on. Well, for the next year and a half, Molly had nothing but diarrhea, sometimes with blood in it, and the smell was God-Awful! It could melt steel! The diarrhea was sometimes so bad that it splattered onto the wall, though the best poos were pudding-like yet had a slight poo shape. I tried all kinds of kibble (the food that started the whole problems, the original kibble, was California Natural, and I tried Felidae (worked pretty well), Timberwolf Organics (worked really well), Innova, Innova EVO, and Orijen. Nothing worked. Finally, I thought, "to heck with it," and decided to try a RAW diet once and for all. I'd been considering it, seeing as how she smelled and acted like a normal kitty for the first week we had her, and I figured now would be as good a time as ever to venture into the world of Rawness (versus going with a canned-diet). Well, lemme tell you, the smells and the diarrhea cleared up right away, after the week of detox, that is. Her poops are now firmed (though not hard like Willow's is, but that's not a fair comparison: Willow could live on a diet of glass and still have hard poops) and there's hardly any smell to speak of. The whole family is just shocked! I've found out, too, that the RAW diet is cheaper than canned. When I switched Molly to RAW, I switched Willow as well, but since Buffy wouldn't touch raw meat, I compromised and put her on a canned diet, so I figured out the differences in the costs between the two types (Buffy is now on RAW and loving it)

Others have mentioned wet diets, and I would strongly suggest that. Molly just couldn't handle the carbs in kibble; it wasn't beef or grains like I'd thought all along (I experimented once and gave her the beef formula of the RAW brand I feed, for a week or two, and she didn't have any problems). I would also suggest pumpkin; whenever I let Molly have some, her "issues" took a slight reprieve. The bonus was the fact that Molly LOVED pumpkin, lol

Trying to swtich to an all wet diet after doing an elimination diet and determining that egg is a problem for Coco I think is where I went astray. She is pretty finicky and I had a hard time finding wet food that she would eat that didn't have egg. In trying different foods I believe I triggered the loose stool again by introduced another ingredient she has problems with but which wasn't in any of the foods I used during the elimination diet.

I have a feeling a raw diet would help a lot but I have already tried introducing her to raw and from her reaction I know it will take a long time to get her to accept it. If I can't find another solution I may have to go that route though.

As for now, I have had encouraging results with the California Natural Chicken and Rice. For the past few days I have stopped all wet foods and have been switching over to the CN. I saw immediate impovement in her stool. Today is the first day of her eating CN exclusively. The next few days should tell me whether I've found at least one food she tolerates well.

Thanks to everyone for your posts. I was pretty frustrated and your suggestions got me thinking along new tracks.

I'll post again in a few days with results...

I'm not sure which post you are referring to. Coco never had incontinence or smelly poops.

Her problem has been completely resolved by using a probioic supplement.

Thanks for trying to help! It is appreciated.

Do you think I should still use it if I'm no longer having problems with loose stool after going RAW?
I use a probiotic regardless of what I am feeding ... that is the common pet store or feed store one... my vet approves of it so I would say it is good

My cat was the same way with loose stool all the time. Iwas changing her liter box constantly. The vet I was taking her to could not figure out what it was. I decided to change vets and the new vet told memy cat had Irritable Bowl syndrome. SHe was on Prednisone for about a month and the vet told me to feed her Eukanuba veterniary diets Low-Residue Adult cat food. It is a dry crunchy food and it worked perfectly!!! That is all we give her. Once in a while we give her a treat but not too often cos she gets sick. SHe is doign great now. Hope this helps!!!

Do you mean you just tried Wellness or that you tried Wellness plus a probiotic supplement?

It only took 2 days for Coco's stools to return to normal.

Others have reported that the diarrhea got worst when they first started using a probiotic supplement but that it got better if they stuck with it for a week or so. You might want to try introducing the supplement very slowly to avoid making the diarrhea worst in the beginning.

PS - It's probably worth mentioning that at about the same time I started her on the probiotic I switched her to an exclusive diet of California Natural Chk & Rice (dry). It is an easy to digest food that may have helped. After a couple of weeks though I was able to feed her anything with no problem.

PSS - I didn't use Probios. I used Eagle Pack Holistic Solution.

Eukanuba low-res is what my vet first recommended. Didn't do a thing for Coco.
