We all knew it!

I always say it is the quality not the quantity that counds.

No ine talks as much as my dad. He can stand gabbing for hours with the neighbours. Half the time when my mom doesn't know where he is he is out chatting away.

Now if somebody would just do a study disproving the claim that women gossip more than men!

I know a man that gossips and talks with the best of them and his name is Jim.

J's mother, sister and I were all talking about this not that long ago, and we all came to the same conclusion: if our partners aren't talking, we assume there's something wrong with them! Whenever J falls silent, I almost immediately ask him if he's okay, but he normally talks all the time. It's not that he keeps up an endless stream of pointless babble, but he always finds something to talk about, and if he doesn't, I assume something's wrong with him.

I would say that J and I talk an equal amount.

I don't know, Bruce, 12.76 posts a day seems pretty talkative to me.

My husband always says he don't get a chance to talk

I knew it! I work with lots of men and heavens, can they yap! I haven't seen any difference between the women and the men even in the subject matter.

Stereotypes would have us believe men talk more about automobiles, etc. Nope, they gossip about who is doing what just like the women do.

Max could out-talk me underwater with a mouth full of marbles. And that is no idle boast. I've usually used up my 10,000 words before breakfast.

He's already got some!!! When he gives me a pained expression during the news I know it's time to shut up.

Yeah, the research is probably right but only women would talk through the news or a favourite tv show

Men can talk a lot! Just mention the word football to Scott and you will get a lengthy conversation. It's his obsession!

Not so, my friend! J frequently talks through the news -- I'll be listening intently, and he'll suddenly pop up with some inane question (usually completely unrelated to the news, because he's not really paying attention anyway) and I'll miss what I was listening for. He does this all the time. I don't talk through the news; I watch the news.

He and I are both guilty of talking through our favourite TV shows, though. It's not that we do it deliberately, but something will happen on-screen and one of us will have to comment on it, and then the next thing you know, we've missed a bit of dialogue or a witty comeback, and we'll look at each other and say "What did s/he say?"

Nope! Not only women, my boyfriend does it too.

Eh...I guess I didn't know it was a contest. I just in general agree with the last line of the article:

"some men talk more than women and some women talk more then men"

OMG, going anywhere with my dad was a day long process. It seemed he knew EVERYBODY in town, and had to stop and talk to all of them. It wasn't unusual to spend 3 hours in the market picking up 10 things! So, yeah, men talk...with other men. It used to make my mom so mad because when we got home, he had nothing to say.

DH talks through anything, but we only really see each other for 1-2 hours a day, so a lot has to be squeezed in. I've given up trying to watch something when I get home from work. I just turn the volume down and use it as background noise. I'm just glad he still wants to talk to me!
