what is the average weight of a 8 to 10 week old dsh kitten. jinx seems to be a very small kitten im thinking he is gowing to be a small cat, he had a vet vist today and they think he is ten weeks going by his teeth but he is only the size of an 8 week kitten and the vet was a bit concerned about how small he is. he needs to go for a check up every week for the next month just so she can keep a eye on hes growth. And here i was thinking he was growing fine
she never mentioned what could be the problem althought she did mention the mum may have been young. im so
with the people who allowed these kittens in to this world, i hope whoever had mumma cat got her nutered although i doubt it very much

At exactly 8 weeks old, my smallest kitten (female) was 1 pound 1.6 ounces and my largest (male) was 1 pound 10.6 ounces.

At 9 weeks old now, the smallest is 1 pound 3.6 ounces (female) and the largest is 1 pound 15.6 ounces (male).

The smallest ones were born to mommas that weigh only about 5 pounds full grown (not skinny), and I never got a chance to see the two largest boys' momma (she was killed and one of my momma cats "adopted" them).

Can you buy a scale and monitor his weight daily? As long as he's gaining and not losing, he may just be a small cat. I bought a postage scale off of eBay that goes up to 75 pounds. I weighed mine every day until the past week or so and now it's about every other day now that they're older. I still weigh the youngest kittens daily though.

They are approximately 12 inches from tip of the nose to the butt (not including tail).

It looks like your little one is just under a pound, right? (I used a metric converter so hope it is correct)

Daphne was right at 1lb (453 grams) at 8 weeks old. They weren't exactly sure of her age but estimated 8 weeks. She was on the thin side. She is still a long, thin girl. At 5 months, she weighs 4.5 lbs (around 2 kilograms).

If you are feeling him good quality kitten food and he is growing, he should be okay. Its great that your vet cares enough to keep an eye on him though

My foster kittens ramged from 11 oz. to 14 ozs at 8 weeks. But they were small. Most 8 week old kittens are around 2 lbs. Now they are still pretty small. Most of the other kittens their age in our rescue are about 4 lbs. They are two of them are 3 lbs and one of them is only 2 1/2 lbs. Their mom is only 10 months old and is only 4 lbs. So they are probably arent going to get to big. I just say keep an eye on how he is growing/eating and if he seems to be doing good then not to worry. I worried myself to much over Skyes babies and they are perfectly healthy just tiny babies.

well ive just looked it up he weighs over 1kg and 1kg = 2lbs so i think he weighs nearly 2 1/2 lbs i think. on human scales he is just under 2lbs. my vet didnt tell me how much he weighed but im going to go in tomorrow and get the weight done again. im just hoping he has nothing to serious, i have delt with cats with stunted growth before and some have had serious problems
he seems normal just small. has any one got any pictures of kittens bettween 8 and 10 weeks which shows there size against a hand or something. Im really trying not to worry but it is hard

Here is a picture of a kitten next to a Pepsi can, maybe it will help you a little. This is one of my kittens, Lt. Bear... she turned 8 weeks old yesterday, the picture is from just a couple minutes ago. She weighed 1 pound, 6.8 ounces this morning.

I've had problems with vets being wrong before (that's how I ended up with the first litter of kittens!). If you are truly concerned and think something may be wrong, then by all means go and see a different vet. Or maybe just take him in and ask to just have him weighed. Before I got my scale, I'd take my animals in to the vet on a regular basis to be weighed just to make sure everything was ok.

well oh has left with jinx to go to the other vet as he doesnt think he is too small as we only estimate him as 8 weeks so we think he looks and weighs fine but if he is ten weeks like this vet says then he is too small... i just want to get it all checked out make sure he has no other problems many cats i have worked with that have growth disorders have been much older and have lived very painful lives with painful joints and i just dont want this for jinx i would never put him down put i will pay for meds ...
i always think the worst but then ill be much happy if it isnt as serious as that. vet visits always seem to leave me anxious.

Not sure if you can tell from these photos but here is Daphne at apprx. 8 weeks and one pound (think that would be a 1/2 kg?).

Here she is on a box of litter:

Here she is sleeping next to a box of saltines (crackers):

When I took her for her first vet visit, she weighed the one pound (at apprx 8 weeks) Ten days later when I took her in to be wormed, she weighed 2 pounds at apprx 9-10 weeks. They grow quickly at that age

I think your little one looks just about right.

For about the first 6-8 months old kittens are usually a pound or so more then their age in months.

So a 8 week old kitten would weigh about 2 lbs; 16 week (4 month) would weigh 4-5 lbs.

Now if the kitten came from smaller parents or more of an oriental type of cat they would weigh less at that age.

Are you concerned they are overweight?

What are you feeding them and how often?

Can you post pictures of your kittens?
