When I'm asleep or out of the house my cat grabs and tosses around everything that's not nailed down. When she does it at home, I can stop her and let her know it's bad, but I can't really punish her when I come home and find stuff everywhere, after the fact. That would just confuse her. She's tossing around things like my toothbrush, keys, towels hanging in the shower. A bunch of things she shouldn't. Any advice would be appreciated.

Haha, my advice - get used to it!

Oliver has a THOUSAND of his own toys (which by the way, could be your kitty's deal - does she have enough proper things to play with?), but when it's bedtime and he's confined in my room with me, if he's not tired, he'll walk along my desk and dresser and swat off anything of interest to him (includiing my wireless mouse)... I usually try to remember to tuck possible play things away before I go to bed.... So basically make sure she has enough good things to play with and tuck away things she shouldn't play with.... you can also use deterrants like foil, etc up on counters and desks where she's knocking things off of so she won't get up there at all... also before bed, try wearin her out with playtime so she's ready to crash when you are

Neely will do the same thing when we're asleep but it's her intent to get us up to play with her.
We had to keep her out of our bedroom at night. During the daytime when you're at work you might want to consider confining her to a room that you can cat proof and as BuzbyJLC10 said make sure you have plenty of kitty toys out and deterrants for areas where you don't want her to get into. Our last cat was a couch potato but Neely is a mischief maker. Best of luck.

Demetri is shut in my room at night too, I make sure to give him a good play session before bedtime and another first thing in the morning.

He's really good at night, during the day he's crazy but the house is pretty much cat/child proof.

Not sure how old she is, but this does happen till ,well thats a cat for ya
! I can't use the garbage can in the bathroom anymore, no bag, no garbage, otherwise it ends up all over the bathroom! Every so often I have to expect the toilet paper to be completely unrolled and the apt. TP'd
! Best is to cat proof as much as you can, then discourage when you are there.

Oh yeah, a basket or bowl of toys is always helpful!

Yep try to keep as much stuff that you don't want your play with out of reach, i.e closed in cupboards or in rooms that your cat can't get to.

Then be sure to play with your cat before going to bed for a while to tire her out. Really it's amazing how many behavioural "problems" in cats are really caused by boredom and can be solved by lots of play, paper boxes to explore etc.

While lots of people like the lapcat aspect of cats they are small predators and need to hunt and use their minds so mental stimulation and play is vital to get a happy pet. Some older cats are complete couch potatos but if your cat is young or just an active cat she'll need lots of play.

I was going to say sounds like kitty is bored or very young. My cats are older, but they still get into stuff. Anything I want cat free is behind a closed door or locked cabinet (because Bella can open cabinets without child locks).
