Our neighbour, Briana, has a 6 week old baby who is such a cutie. I'm often out the front of their townhouse as Stumpy goes running straight to their place to chew on their grass when she gets half a chance, since that's the closest grass.

So I was supervising her while she had a nibble, and Bri opened the front blinds, saw me, and came out with little Clara.

Clara was fussing a bit, and Bri was looking exasperated and said "she's been really fussy all day, I don't know what she wants". And she was trying different positions and little Clara kept on fussing.

I asked if I could take her for a bit, and I put her on my shoulder, and she stopped fussing immediately.
So we chatted for a while, and Clara quite happily sat there calm as could be...

They were about to go get the mail, so I said I'd walk down with them and keep cuddling Clara since she was settled (and so darn cute).

On the way back from the mail box Clara fell asleep still snuggled up to me. I must have been cuddling her about 45 minutes without any fussing or even making a sound. She must have just wanted someone different to cuddle

It's certainly nice to know that I can handle babies ok - that they don't go screaming as soon as they see me....

I see you are getting prepared to be a great mommy. I think sometimes when babies are fussing the mom's get tense and the baby senses it which makes it worse. Having a new set of calm arms usually does the trick of calming both mom and baby down.

I am sure your neighbor really appreciated your help.I know having three children myself and one who had colic how much it tires you out having to listen and deal with a crying ,screaming baby for hours on end.Any help is wanted / needed even if not asked
Good for you for helping out your neighbor
I'm sure it was much appreciated

Awww! Mommy training!

My Mother just started working for a daycare last week. She called me after work today to tell me about one of the little ones. The kids in the room she was in are at a crawling age and my Mom and the other teacher in the room were rushing to change all the kids because they'd all suddenly gone and soiled their diapers!
Well this one little girl got fussy and was sitting there just crying away. Finally she crawled to my Mother, wrapped one little arm around her ankle and fell straight to sleep!
Poor baby! Mom said that this little one is a leg hugger anyway and any time you are giving other kids attention she will try to get your attention somehow. She sounds so darn cute! (Although I'm sure that gets real old real fast!)

Awww... that must have been a lovely little interlude in your day.
One time at a restaurant, the people at the next table had the most adorable little girl about eight months or so, and my mom and I teased and played peek with her all through our meal. Eventually, they actually let my mom hold the baby for awhile! Boy, did that make my 82-year-old mom's day...

So you can show up at her door when your son is howling, and get a break, too.

The same thing happened to me when our daughter was teething! She was all fussy and a coworker came over and took her and she calmed down, and then went to sleep! I guess it's practice for later when kids let things out on the family members but behave with others.

That was sweet that she used you as her pillow.

Just a warning however....just because it worked with a baby who is not yours, doesn't mean it will work for your little guy! Babies are born to cause their mommies sleepless nights and stress (and love and all the other good stuff too - they are worth it).

Oh I know
It's just nice to know that a baby doesn't get into my arms and scream it's head off the second it sees me...
