What could this be????

Toby is sort of gagging and then a small amount of fluid comes out of his mouth. It is not vomit (no food at all in it) and it`s not a hairball (I KNOW what those look like!) All it is is a small amount of clear fluid ...about the size of a nickle - a quarter with like air bubbles on it. He`s just started it this afternoon, but has done it several times. The last time (and I know this is gross...but I had to do it so I`d know) I felt it before I cleaned it up...and it is slightly mucusy.
Otherwise he acts perfectly normal. he`s eating, drinking and playing and wanting to be petted.
I`ve called the vet and got his answering machine, and left a message and am expecting him to call me back anytime.
I`ve never had a cat do this before....does anyone have a clue what it could be ????
Thanks for any input!

Has she been wormed lately? One of my kitties was spitting up like that, and the vet treated her for roundworms and said they would tickle their throat and cause them to spit up like that. She never did it after she was treated. Just a thought.

Beandip gagged and brought up spit when he had a virus (a flu type illness of some sort...I can't recall). The vet said that drainage going down his throat was making him gag. He went to the vet, got antibiotics and was much better in a couple of days.

Thanksou both for your responses.....I`m still waiting to hear from the vet...although he has stopped doing it now that I made the call. (Just like a kid! Treaten to take them to the Dr and they suddenly get better!)
All our cats are indoor onlys and have`nt had worms since they were kittens that I know of.....can they get them if they don`t go outside or come in contact with another animals???
And if it`s a virus then Id assume he will start in again....in either case, if he does I`m certainly going to take him in (providing the vet calls me back...am beginning to wonder if he went on vacation or something....he usually calls me back quite promptly)
In any case ....for now anyhow. I`m glad Toby seems to have quit....you know how most of us are....."Worrying Mommies"!

Geronimo occasionally throws up a little clear, bubbly substance - I have no idea why. He's in good health, and it only happens once in awhile. If it occurred on a regular basis, I would take him to the vet. I think your cat is probably okay, but it probably wouldn't hurt to hear what your vet has to say.

Cats can get worms, even if they don't go outside. Mine are all indoor cats, but Geronimo & Winchester occasionally get worms from ingesting a flea, which get tracked in on our shoes from the stray cats that we feed on the porch. When they get a case of the worms, I get a little red de-worming pill from the vet to get rid of them. I also put Advantage flea stuff on them, to keep the fleas at bay.

Yep. They get roundworms from their momma's too,and they can lay dormant in their systems for months, sometimes years until stress or something triggers their movement into the digestive tract via their lungs and a cough. The worm meds don't kill them unless they are in the intestines. And it figures he gets better after the phone call! They sure love to make us worry!

My cats occasionally puke up that clearish foamy stuff. Just a tiny little bit. I never thought it could be from worms though. Maybe I should deworm the whole crew...

Just want to say thanks to you all who responded to my thread.
Odd thing is....He`s completely stopped now (good thing cause the vet never called me back.....I really do wonder if he was gone or something. I`m glad it was`nt an emergency!)
I appreciate you all!
