As some of you may know from a former thread I wrote not even a week ago... I had a cyst issue on the cartilage of my ear... Here is the link for catch up if you havent seen my previous thread:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=132572

Well I woke up this morning and I had another one... Only this time it was on the other ear (at the bottom of my earlobe and at the base of where the earlobe and face meet.
What is going on with me? This one was bigger and hurt... I woke up at 4am and popped it, dousing it in peroxide and neosporin (sp)... I have never had cysts or any issue of the sort in my life. Why is this happening now. It is bad enough that I already have so many health issues that effect me on a daily basis... Now I have this...

Of course my post just wouldn't be right unless I left a photo for you to see the damages... Dont look if you are easily grossed... This one is popped and quite nasty looking

I probably should have posted it as a link.... Ewww it is oozing in the pic!

I dont know what my deal is. My doc didnt even know what was up with the first one until she popped it. This has happend to me twice now in one week. Im tired of seeing docs, I have spent so much money with all my health issues and I am no better than i was before. I hate doctors so I avoid them at all costs because everytime I go it is a waste of time and a co-pay. I dont mean to be pessimistic but seriously this is ridiculous. I think I if I get another one I am going to see my dermatologist. Oh and it is sore... Well was when I scrapped all the green goop off and pourde peroxide on it

Yup, go see a dermatologist...
they're trained to see this kind of stuff...internist may or may not have the experience, so save yourself some wasted visits if you can...

And you want to make sure it's not some deeper infection or something sinister brewing...
Good Luck

It's entirely possible that they are pressure sores from having slept on that side. Maybe try taking your earrings out at night before going to bed. Sleeping on all that metal causes areas of pressure in the skin and that can cause sores.

Pressure sores huh? I do have a keloid on the ear I first got the cyst... I have a tragus piercing and because I slept on it through the healing process it got infected and a small keloid formed. I have been searching cysts on the internet and none look like the thing I have had. Mine are green and pussy looking during the formation, yet they do not become goopy until all of that is removed. I do have before and after pics to show my dermatologist.

Is it possible that it could be some sort of reaction to your piercings? Have you switched them out recently?

Well i thought the first cyst may have been because of my piercing since it was on the same ear but not in the same area at all. this new one is on the otherside where i have had no recent piercings for almost 4 years now. Plus i know my boss wont let me go to the doc because we are short staffed until the 10th of july!

No. Because I have missed so much work for procedures this last year (had over 20 doc appointments... cardiologist, pulmonary specialist, gi, and primary physician) he wont allow it, he doesnt like me... and because I answer the phones at the company I cannot leave, especially since my supervisor is on vacation (the only other person who knows how to answer the phones) I know he wont allow it. He has no tolerance for my issues or previous absenses due to health conditions, or anyones for that matter.

I used to get them alot and they do hurt like heck.

Now I wash behind my ears every single time I shower with Clearasil face wash in the purple container. That keeps it from happening. It's just like a zit, it's a sebacuous oil gland getting blocked & therefore infected.

If you keep it from blocking with the cleanser, then they don't get infected.

From what I understand, these things happen with age. It never happened to me until I was in my 20s.

I agree. My problem was not as bad as yours but I had, had my ear pierced for donkey's years and had no problems until I put in the larger metalware. I would wake up with an extremely sore ear and weeping ear. It was weeping from the hole. It seems that the larger accessories are made from a different metal or something. I decided to take them out before I went to sleep, and I tell you, it improved.
The thing is though, personally I find it to be a pain in the behind to take them out and put them back. I haven't worn mine in a few months and don't know where I put them

Try taking them out for a few days it may make the world of difference.

I used to wear earrings in my ears 24/7 and I had sore ears and weepy/itchy ear problems. I haven't done that for a long time. I take them out at night and I don't have problems. Although I never had cysts or boils like your pictures.

Another idea is changing your pillowcases & towels often. That may also help while you are trying to get that icky stuff to clear up.

My gauges are not the issue... I mean sure sometimes they get a little sore from pressure or gunky but I clean them on a regular basis. Neither of the two "cysts" I have had are at the site of my piercings... Plus I have been sleeping on my back all the time lately since I had the one cyst and the keloid from the tragus piercing form. The doc said that my cyst issue had nothing to do with my piercing... So that is good but I still have to take care of that issue as well (probably stereoid injections or cortisone shots to rid of the keloid, which is very small)... My ears are just falling apart

Also I always wash behind my ears, most the time I shower twice daily... I use cetaphil daily cleanser on my face and use antibacterial soap (unscented dial) on my ears... I am on a fairly new face regime of a benzoyl peroxide wash, cetaphil, differin, and cetaphil lotion. I have been on that for about 3 weeks though and I do not put the medications near my ears? I am a very clean person so I dont think this is a hygiene issue. My skin is also not oily except a little in the t-zone... Of course It seems to me to be a sebacous gland gone astray but I am not definite on it!
