Oh, I love her too! As far as I know, I'm not really related to anyone famous, although my father's side are from nobility in Ireland. From what I understand, there is a family castle in Ireland that I would love to see!

I do have a question. Can someone explain to me the "removed" cousins. I understand first, second, third, etc...but never understood what first removed, or second removed meant.

Oh yeah, what does "removed" mean? I think I learned that sometime, but I've forgotten.

The "removed" part is a way of saying one generation difference. For example...

My first cousin Mark has two boys. They are my first cousins, once removed. Their children would be my first cousins twice removed. Had to learn this for genetics class and has come in handy for genealogy.

As for being related to someone famous... No one, yet, though I would be interested in learning about Toby Keith because I heard he is from western Kentucky where my Keith ancestors were from.

Your children and the children of your first cousin are second cousins. The children of second cousins would be third cousins. And so on and so forth...

So, my child Aristotle is a second cousin to Ben, my cousin's son.

I am related to Alexander Graham Bell's wife! She is my Great Grandma's great aunt. Anyway, my great grandma's great grandfather was Gardiner Greene Hubbard. He helped finance the invention of the telephone. He met Bell becausee Bell was his daughter's (and later his wife's) teacher. Her name was Mabel, and she became deaf from Scarlett fever when she was young. She kept a diary and although she loved her husband dearly, she couldn't stand that he would tinker around in the garage all day. We all joke and say it fits because the women in our family are strong willed, and good luck getting them off the telephone!!!

There was some talk that my dad was related to Bonnie of Bonnie & Clyde. But I think it was through marriage, not blood.

Ummm ... well ...

Lets see here. Okay, this is not really a relation type thing, but apparently my great grandfather held Mia Farrow when she was a baby. Her mother used to come up here for holidays and my GG was a stone mason, and he would ferry the stones down the Rideau River to Manotick, which is a town downriver.

My Great Great Great Great Great Grand Uncle (give or take a few greats!) was Philemon Wright. He was a lumberman, who came up from the US to start his business on the Ottawa River and sort of became the founder of the settlements here and eventually Ottawa itself.

My dad has told the story that my grandma used to tell about our family being related to Joseph Conrad, the great Polish writer.

And apparently someone way back in the 1600s or thereabouts married Christopher Wren, but we're thinking it's just a rumour.

Well, not really a relative but since I'm adopted anyway I'm clueless as to my biological roots. Anyway, there's this lady that we call grandma Jones. She's helped raise my and my brother and is my brother's god-mother's mother... confusing enough? Thats why we call her grandma... in short, even is I weren't adopted she still wouldn't be a blood relative. Anyway, she just celebrated her 100th birthday and she's Knute Rockne's sister!

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
Hmm... lessee...

let's start with the Mormons... they're the easiest

Steve Young (49ers quarterback), fifth cousin
Lorenzo Dow Young, Brigham's brother (BY being one who founded the Mormon Church)

And no, I'm not Mormon. My grandmother saw to that.

I also have:
Maude Adams (1872-1953): stage actress best known for being first female to play Peter Pan onstate.

John Howland (I think... will have to abscond my mother's Geneological records): one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact.

William the Silent, Prince of Orange: Dutch nobility. Again, I'll have to get my mother's records to find out which child (presumably one of the illegitimate ones, so my mother says) made my line.

That's all I can think of.

Althoug there's some moonshiners and such as well... but no one else famous.

the weird thing is, he was a really nice guy - you'dve never expected anything like this from him. City Confidential did a show on him & the murder.
