I just wanted to say that Zoey looks like she could be my Pogue's sister.

Oh, and ..my cats swear by meow mix wet, but personally I think they're too fishy... but they love meow mix packets.. they like the tubs too, but I don't recall if the tubs are less fishy than the packets. Maine Attraction is a big hit here. I've been giving them Sheeba, though, for treats.. wet food isn't their staple here, though. Two get dry and two eat a combo of dry and raw, and one eats nothing but raw.

Just as a side note, and I haven't checked this out with wet food containers, but sometimes getting it mail order is actually the same price as getting it via the store... because they charge less for the actual food, so what you're paying in shipping is only just making up what you'd pay for it at the store if you could get it there. I'm sure people would be happy to compare the prices for you if there's none in your area. You may be able to find something comparable in price that's better in nutrition for them, if that's what you're trying to determine. You have to play with the shipping and quantity a bit, though. Like.. order just as much as you can to max out the "weight" on that particular shipping price before you order it. If ..let's say $5 in shipping (and that's not accurate) covers from 2 to 6 pounds.. then go for getting as close to the 6 pounds as you can, and then the shipping works out lower for the total amount of food you got. Now, I got Wellness wet cat food around here (at the "posh" pet store, where everything is more expensive), for about $.70 a can, which is cheaper than Sheeba.

Also, check out the thread on free stuff.. if you're interested in the other foods.. instead of ordering it, write to the company and see if they'll send you samples of everything.

I feed my Adult cats(4), one can of Friskies with one container of Meow Mix select in the morning and the same in the evening...dry food is usually Meow Mix Seafood which is available all the time. For my kittens(2) i feed them a half of a can of Friskies chicken or poultry, mixed with a little water and dry kitten chow in the morning and evening also. Dry kitten chow is available all the time. I have foster kittens(3) that I just weaned and they eat the poultry wet food with kitten chow and water at each feeding 4-6 hours
My cats are healthy and thriving. I think the food I am using is fine.

I use premium canned food but I do feed an occasional can of Friskies. Since my one picky cat won't always eat premium canned, I use the Friskies because he will eat it.

I've tried all the healthy moist food and all my cats turned their noses up at it. I feed high quality dry (which they love) ... I alternate between Felidae, Chicken Soup, Wysong & Artemis.

I hung my head in shame when I asked the vet how horrible Fancy Feast is since that is the only thing that they like.

I know that people will slam my vet, but he said that Fancy Feast actually get a bit of a bad rap. It is not absolutely the best thing to feed, but it really isn't that bad of a choice if your cats like it. Next choice he said is Friskies which he said has gotten better over the years. I, personally, don't like the Friskies. The main 3 brands I have chosen (Natural Life, Nutro, and Meow Mix) don't have wheat gluten or meat/chicken by-products, whereas Friskies does. I'm sure it's just fine though, and I'll be feeding Zoey some maybe 2-3 times a month, since she does get a variety. I am pleased with what I have locally here, and the variety she can get. Thank-you everybody!

I think I now have her meal and nutrition schedule finally worked out! She gets Nutro Natural Choice Indoor Kitten for dry, always available. She gets about 1.5 oz of wet in the morning and evening. Her main brands are Natural Choice, Nutro, and Meow Mix. She also gets some Iams, Fancy Feast, Special Kitty and Friskies.

Thanks again, ya'll!

PS: omigosh! Pogue does look like Zoey! *cracks up* Those are accurate pics of her, and if that one is too... she has a faraway twin!

We use Meow Mix and occasionally Friskies. Unfortunately Thunder is very picky and will only eat those. Meow mix is defintely better as long as you don't mind a lot of fish.

That's the answer I got when I took my guys to a cat specialist a few years ago. She said the same thing. FF and Friskies aren't as bad as they are made out to be. She told me she would be more happy having my cats on all FF than having any kibble. Unfortunately I couldn't get my cats to agree to that so they still get some kibble.

Watching the robins sing!
What we go through for our kids! I am feeding the girls, and baby boy Cosmo Wellness Core dry food - they all like that. However, wet is a different story! None of them like what I feed them - and all eat each other's food. Cosmo doesn't like any kitten food - period! Mollie and Sophie gobble up Cosmo's food if I don't watch them - and Cosmo will eat their food
None of them seem to appreciate premium cat food (wet, that is!) I have tried all the brands that my local pet stores carry - nope, nothing! They turn their noses up at everything! I love reading these posts because I realize that I do not have the only hard to please cats!! Misery loves company!

IMO, and you'll have to ask Sharky about this for verification, I believe chicken meal is okay, given that cats would eat bones and organs and such in the wild, but it's MEAT byproducts that you want to stay away from, since they include such things as roadkill, euthanized animals, and other things.

Just kind of started to wonder, if you had these choices, what you would choose, based on nutrition and feline favorable aspects.
I would order online and have a higher quality food delivered to my door

or do it myself with the help of a nutritionist and vet and feed my cat raw or homemade if those were my only choices at the stores nearby

Me too. Felidae is also reasonably priced

Chicken meal is a great protein in a dry food as it is essesstially dhydrated chn with some bone ... I wouldnt understand the need for that in a wet food...

I have on occation served chn by products but I dont like too unless it is fresh organs I make for them .... chn by products can be heads ft organs blood vessels...

I use meow wet food and dry and sometimes friskies wet.my kitty is 7 months and she loves all but the pattae.I read the ingrediants in meow and I think its better than alot of other food. She is healthy and 6.5 pounds. The vet said she is healthy and perfect condition.I guess as long as there is no grain or corn, carrots it is good.so can is better, less carbs if you dont want a fat animal and cats are carnivors. And need moisture too in wet.

Meow Mix wet food and Friskies wet are OK, but Meow Mix dry is one of the worst foods on the market :/. I'd recommend getting a better-quality dry if you don't want to feed all wet food.

I think Fancy Feast is better, and meow mix does have by-products and something called caramel color witch contains 4-methylimidazole, a known animal carcinogen.

meow mix: Mackerel, Water Sufficient for Processing, Chicken, Beef Liver, Tuna, Tuna By-product, Modified Food Starch, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Titanium Dioxide (Color), Salt, Carrageenan, Tricalcium Phosphate, Caramel Color, Guar Gum, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins [Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Biotin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K Activity)], Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate Monohydrate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Potassium Iodide), Choline Chloride, Sodium Nitrite (To Promote Color Retention).

The best cat foods are: Blue Buffalo, Natural Choice, Natural Balance, Tiki Cat, Gourmet Delights.

Kiki1234, please note that you are responding to a thread that is well over two years old and was started over five years ago. I doubt if many of these posters are posting here now. Please feel free to start your own thread if you'd like.

Fancy Feast Meow Mix and Friskies make really harmful dry foods, i only feed my cat the wet, but Kiki likes the Fancy Feast better, so Fancy Feast.
