I'm actually watching this against my better judgment (in part because I didn't like Diana, but also becasue I usually dislike this kind of concert that has such a wide variety of artists that you have to watch loads you hate just to catch the few that you enjoy), but I am actually enjoying it
Even skipped Corrie to watch it

Really? I wasn`t a hardcore supporter but I think she was a good woman.
I know what you mean though. I usually get bored of these kind of things after about an hour but this is pretty special

I loved Diana! What a wonderful person she was and what a tragedy that she died so young! I think it's wonderful that her sons wanted this tribute to their Mum! I hear Elton John is going to do the finale - Candle In The Wind (the Diana version) which he swore he would never sing again but agreed to do it because William and Harry asked him to. How wonderful is that?

Oh, I didn`t know he said he`d never sing that song again.

I will be waving a lighter in the air. No, really, I will be!

I don't want to turn this into a Diana bashing thread as it's not appropriate, but just to explain a bit further - obviously I can't judge her as a mother, friend, sister, daughter etc as I have no idea of how she was in any of those roles, so am judging her on her public image. I always thought she was less innocent than she was portrayed and that she used the media in order to gain public sympathy. I think she went into her marriage with Prince Charles with her eyes wide open (and without loving him) and then found it wasn't quite what she thought it would be. I guess she had a lot of problems, including a lack of self confidence, but I couldn't summon up much sympathy for her - she seemed her own worst enemy at times. After the Panorama interview she gave I lost all respect for her. I think she behaved like a small child instead of a woman in her 30's and wanted to shake her and tell her to sort herself out and grow up. And I'm not going to change my opinion of her just because she's dead.

But enough about that. I have really enjoyed the concert,
Incidentally, it's my mum's birthday today too. She's 76 and has always liked the fact that she shared her birth date with Diana.

Maybe he`ll sing it and then end on something a bit more up-beat?

Thank you
I was supposed to be visiting her this weekend but due to the flooding I decided not to drive up there as I would have had to go through some of the areas that have been badly affected.

The sad thing is that if Diana was alive today I think she would be a much more confident and happier person. When she died she was starting to get her life sorted out and find a happy compromise between her public image and work and her private life. It's a shame she never got a chance to become that person.

For what it's worth... I don't think anybody's eyes are wide open at 19.

Thank you, all you UK members, for this running commentary! It's really nice to be able to live vicariously through you...

And I can agree without even seeing him -- you bet Rod Stewart's still got it!
