I don't want to turn this into a Diana bashing thread as it's not appropriate, but just to explain a bit further - obviously I can't judge her as a mother, friend, sister, daughter etc as I have no idea of how she was in any of those roles, so am judging her on her public image. I always thought she was less innocent than she was portrayed and that she used the media in order to gain public sympathy. I think she went into her marriage with Prince Charles with her eyes wide open (and without loving him) and then found it wasn't quite what she thought it would be. I guess she had a lot of problems, including a lack of self confidence, but I couldn't summon up much sympathy for her - she seemed her own worst enemy at times. After the Panorama interview she gave I lost all respect for her. I think she behaved like a small child instead of a woman in her 30's and wanted to shake her and tell her to sort herself out and grow up. And I'm not going to change my opinion of her just because she's dead.
But enough about that. I have really enjoyed the concert,
Incidentally, it's my mum's birthday today too. She's 76 and has always liked the fact that she shared her birth date with Diana.
