My cat is almost 5 months old, he has had problems pooping and peeing in the litter this entire time. A week has not gone by without at least 1 accident occurring. The accidents happen on the comforter 90% of the time.

For the record, I have not disciplined him in any way.

Here are a few things I thought were suspect followed by irregular habits dispelling my suspicion.

1. My comforter was not washed properly leaving an urine scent. Therefore he is relating the smell to his urining/pooping location

- He has peed and pooped on my brother's and my parent's comforter as well. And their comforters were not contaminated.

2. He is too stressed out

- The accidents do not have any commonality other than the availability of comforters. I am with him all the time, and as far as I know he is one happy kitty.

3. He is sick

- He is only 5 months old, took him to the vet, he is fine. Bowel looks healthy, no diarrhea.

4. He is not happy with the litterbox

- If I hide all the comforters, he will use the litterbox regularly. The latest accident occured when my mom forgot to close her door. He won't pee/poop on my bedsheets, pillow, cloth, or towel.... just my comforter. When he does use the litter, there's no complaints. No excessive meowing, or excessive pawing at the litter.

5. Litterbox is not clean

- I clean it twice a day (right after he poops).

I love this cat to death... I am just worried that I will never be able to sleep without the fear of him peeing on me. Cuz it's happened twice. I don't know why he does it. I sleep with my blanket tucked close to me, and I have to push him away when he gets near. On several occasions, as soon as I push him away, he immediately uses the litterbox. I'm stumped... help plz.

Have you ever tried changing the brand of litter? Sometimes they don't like the texture. I had the same problem years ago,and it stopped after I switched brands.

do they get use to the litter? He seems to use it with no fuss.

Could this be a kitten issue that he'll eventually grow out of?

Did you use an enzyme cleaner on the comforters in question? The Cat Attract Litter works wonders here. You might want to discuss prozac with your vet. Our Peaches was peeing on the livingroom rug when she first came. Prozac calmed her and made the problem go away. She's no longer taking it and is doing fine.

well, i got it originally to train my former feral kitten to use the box. every adult in my house wanted to use her little box! so i put some in all of their boxes.
i also have SOMEONE [adult] who occasionally poops on my bed - usually on a freshly washed comforter. not POSITIVE who it is, but i strongly suspect Chip, as this issue began after he joined us. irritating, isn't it? i don't have a door on my bedroom, so i can't keep him out. i'm going to continue with the litter [or additive] & see if that stops.
