I went for a walk today and saw three posters on telephone poles about missing dogs and cats. It was so sad and I felt so bad for the people who have lost their beloved animals. One offered a $500.00 reward for any info about their missing dog. Then it occurred to me.

You know how they have these cell phones now with tracking devices on them so parents can keep track of their kids? GPS tracking. Why can't they make something that would fit on an animal's collar so if a cat bolted out the door and disappeared, the owner could find it. I just did a google search and I guess some companies are trying to develop just such a thing. But at this point, they are too heavy for cats. I think they are available for dogs though. And if the dog leaves a certain perimeter, the owner can keep track of them on their cell phone or a website. Can you imagine? I wish everyone could afford this for all their animals. Maybe some day . . . it would relieve so much heartache!

Conspiracy theorists already believe the government is tracking us all with mini-GPS
Where are Mulder and Scully when we need them?

This technology should be available very soon. Seems if it would fit in a cell phone, it should be almost small enough. Wonder if adding something like this to a microchip would be feasible? I would pay for it!

I would pay for it too if it wasn't too expensive. I just found an article in a newspaper that said they would be making tracking devices light enough for cats within the next year. It doesn't get rid of the dangers, but it does lessen the chances of a lost pet.
