I'm moving back to Canada soon after three years of living in Europe and I want to get a kitten - possibly two at once (probably two sisters). My apartment will be pretty big, so I'll have lots of room in my living room ... I guess the bigger the cat tree the better ?

I was looking at something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/106-CAT-TREE-TOWE...QQcmdZViewItem

Ok it's like 8 feet tall but kittens (or cats) must enjoy jumping around so high or is it a waste of space and money? I want a Siamese and a heard they're quite energetic, but if cats don't care about tree houses ...

This seller charge ridiculously high for shipping, are there any online shops in Canada that carry pet toys? I know no big pet stores where I live...

Your cats will probably love the tree
, but don't be discouraged if they don't take to it right away or don't use it all the time or leave it alone for long periods of time
... it'll be popular enough to make it worth it!!

From my understanding, a cat condo is more of a cozy spot/hideaway vs. a cat tree/gym, which is more like an activity center. You can check out this website for pics of the different styles (this site does NOT ship outside the continental US currently): http://catsplay.com/index.php3

I think a lot of TCSers have Armarkat trees, and they do ship to Canada, as stated on their website: http://www.armarkat.com/a9501.htm

As for unreasonable shipping -- what did that eBay guy want to charge you for shipping from US to Canada? It's a cat tree, so it's probably an oversized box & heavy, so if it's $50, I'd still consider it reasonable depending on the size of the tree; even $100, if it's a massive 8-ft tree with lots of attachments, especially if it's international shipping from US to Canada. (It costs me US $30 to send 2 avg sized book-sized parcels overseas
, so shipping a large parcel has to cost more. Heck, it costs $15 to have a pair of dress shoes mailed within the US, so it's just one of things ...
).

A condo is the one with holes for the cat to hide or sleep inside, the tree is just for playing or lounging around on.

certainly sounds good from the description. i have a tall one, goes almost to the ceiling. all of mine like the top perch except for Chip [let's face it, he's a bit big for it, too!]. if that one is really made from solid wood, like the description says, it's worth the price!

to me, pressed wood & solid wood are not the same thing. the 1st link you posted said solid wood - this one says pressed. so that's a difference. also, petisfun, the eBay seller i bought my tall Armarkat tree from, sells Armarkat on eBay - you might want to check it out.it's possible to get the same tree for less money! most inexpensive cat trees, like Armarkat's, are made from a manufactured wood product - that's why they're cheaper. not saying they're not good - i have 2 - but they're not as strong. i think that's why Chip tends to stay off my tall tree - he senses it's just not beefy enough for him [15+ pounds]. Siamese are usually leaner, so it still might work. & it looks pretty sturdy...

It isn't written solid wood anywhere in the auction... simply custom made in wood... it says it can hold up to 80lbs, and the Armarkat I posted before says it holds up to 80lbs as well...

just be sure you have the right ceiling type for this and height is right on...i personally won't buy a tree that uses the ceiling for support as the house we are in has textured ceiing and it won't get a good grip. but besides taht kittens are going to love this...especially if you get two they will race up and down

ok, here's what i read on the eBay listing...
THESE TOWERS ARE CUSTOM MADE
WITH WOOD& HAVE A SOFT FUR CARPET ON THEM. THE TOWERS HAVE ALOT OF WEIGHT TO THEM (80 lbs) FOR SUPER STABILITY AND SAFETY. BEWARE OF THE CHEAPER TOWERS THAT ARE NOT MADE OF WOOD AND ARE VERY LIGHT (20lbs). THESE WILL TIP AND THEY ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE TO FIT TO CEILINGS. WE FEEL WE SHOULD LET PEOPLE KNOW THIS FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR PET.
but then it says in another place that they weigh 60 pounds. if i were you, i'd get the Armarkat one - they've been around a long time, & if there is a problem, there's someone to call. the auction people's ad sounds like english is their 2nd language.

I think shipping is so much because that is how the seller (along with a lot of other sellers, I've noticed more recently) make the bulk of their money.

I would not buy that cat tree. It looks similar to one I bought from zooplus and which snapped in half - the hammock hanging out over the side is a particular problem. If the posts aren't solid wood - unlikely at that price - it's probably going to cause it to collapse. That's what happened with mine after only a few months. With cat trees/condos you do seem to get what you pay for. I'd advise spending as much as you can afford and get a solid wood one. It will last much longer. I have a small (about 3ft tall) tree that I bought 10 years ago and the sisal posts are in better shape than the zooplus one I bought a year ago.

Actually its not really "high" on shipping. If you bought that cat tree in a store/show you'be looking at $150 or so anyway.

I really like it, tho if the cat wants to be "bad" they will sit at the very top and you won't be able to get them

Nope, they don't ship to Canada

I said to hell with it, the best site I thought was www.catsplay.com, so I will ask a friend in the states near the border to get the delivery for me and re-ship it to me in Canada !

I want a solid tree for my kittens !!!

You might also want to check out Crazy Cat Condos -- CatsPlay carries some of their trees & their website says you may email them for a shipping quote to Canada!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
A good friend of ours very generously gave Sierra & Serenity a cat condo tree for their Birthdays since Serenity just turned 2 in May and Sierra turns 13 on the 27th of this month, and I just got it put together this week! I'll be posting pics once we get a few more and get them downloaded! I very much recommend FelineFurniture.com! Serenity adores it and is hardly getting off of it! Sierra has approved and is still waiting a bit before fully devoting herself to it. It's light weight and a breeze to assemble once you get going. You first get the starter kit and then can keep adding on from there. It's also very versatile in what design you'd like to create for your kitties. I made ours into this design to fit purrfectly in the corner! http://www.felinefurniture.com/cat_f...tarter_set.php

I prefer tall cat gyms though ... in any case, the Feline Furniture are based in California and don't ship to Canada... even if they did, shipping from CA to Sherbrooke,QC would be tremendously expansive as they are at exact opposite ends of the continent.

After talking with a customer service representative from CrazyCatCondo I settled on this unit:
http://www.crazycatcondos.com/CRAZYCATCONDO.html

It was a little more expansive than the other one but it looks nice and is of better quality!

I'm sure my kittens will enjoy it !
