Hi

2 weeks ago I took in an 8 week old female kitten - Tigger, who's owners didn't want her. Yesterday I brought home a 5 or 6 week old male kitten - Roo. This kitten was rescued from a home hit by the floods here in Yorkshire. Roo is very tiny, but eating well. I was hoping the 2 of them would be company for each other whilst I am at work, and I thought inroductions would be quite simple with them both being playful kittens.

But Tigger is very upset about Roo and hisses and growls contantly. I have Roo in a carrier in the main room at moment hoping Tigger would get used to him.

Are the rules for introducing kittens to another kitten any different to introducing a cat to a kitten? Any tips or adivce appreciated.

Thanks

I'm a little surprised that the two are not getting along at this young age. But try these suggestions:

1. Wash both kittens so they smell the same.

2. Sprinkle cornstarch (not talc) baby powder on each and rub it in.

3. Put a dab of vanilla extract on their nose and butt.

I'd let them interact more whether or not they act up. Kittens usually adjust within a few days - maybe a week at that age.

Oh and be sure ALL nails are trimmed short so they don't hurt each other.

In my own world, its much nicer there
Ok heres what I did when I got Diego last week. Theres a 3 month age difference BTW. I put them in the same room together and supervised them. Diego kept going toward Neko coz he's curious but of course, Neko hissed and growled, but we just left it as is (this is the next day after we got Diego). The next day the hisses calmed down but there was still a lot of growling, Slowly they had a sniff of each other but only for a second, Neko would raise his paw and growl. By day three they were having we play fights and day four they are best friends running around tackling each other and so forth.

I imagine that both your kittens being opposite sex it should be faster. Mine are both boys so it was more a dominance thing for Neko. Not to mention we had Neko since he was 2mths so he was an only cat.

Try GoldenKitty's Ideas too, might work faster.

hey. i have my kitty cat, Miss Marilyn Kat, (cleverly named) and she's about 10 weeks old. she's my favorite thing in the world. a couple days ago my rommate got a kitten too. this little cutie is about 5 weeks old. i, too, thought they would be friends. however, my kat seems to think the baby kitten is either a chew toy or a threat to her large little kingdom. i have yet to figure out how to make them get along, but my kat is too frisky. we had to separate them. hmmm.... i wonder if it will work out eventually.
