I went grocery shopping today and paid to have my groceries delivered. I took the frozen stuff home with me and left the store at 12:45pm.

At 3pm I started to call customer service and ask where my groceries were. 7 phone calls later my groceries arrived at about 6:45pm!!!
Six dang hours to get my delivery and the guy had the nerve to suggest that I come down and get them!!! Geez!!!! I didn't. I have a 4 wheel shopping cart in my apartment and told him to come up with a couple of bags and then take the cart back down for the rest.

Because of the long delay in them being delivered, I just now finished cooking. I wanted to replenish my frozen meals because if I don't keep up with it on a monthly basis, I end up cooking for days in order to stock it back up again from scratch. I'm busy this weekend so I wanted to get it done today. Now I'm so wound up from cooking and tidying up this late at night that I'm not tired now

I miss the days when I was well enough to lug up my own groceries and hate having to depend on a delivery service, especially one that is so unreliable as the company that Safeway uses. At least this time they didn't forget any bags or deliver someone else's stuff to me, which has happened!

Well, you'd think they could get it to you in less than 6 hours!
PLUS - don't they think there is a REASON you have to get your groceries delivered?

Sorry - a sore spot for me since I've struggled with joint disease for years and it's an "invisible" illness. AARGH.

Wonder why it took so long? Did they say when they would be delivered?

Good for you for not letting the guy make you come down for the groceries! All the places I've ordered from (here and in the U.S.) they will even bring them into the kitchen if you want them to.

Hope you can relax and get some sleep soon.

I couldn't have gone down even if I wanted to. By the time I got home from the store I was feeling so light headed and faint that I thought I was going to throw up.

It usually takes about 2 hours or maybe 3 hours for delivery.

One time last winter I went shopping and left the store about 1:30pm. The weather was fair, snow on the ground as usual but no storm or anything. I started to call about my groceries at 4:30pm. I was told the driver was on his way there to pick them up. At 7pm I still didn't have my groceries! I called back and was told that the driver's car had broken down and that there was another driver helping on the route and my groceries would be picked up and delivered soon!

I finally got my groceries at 9pm. The owner of the courier company drove all of the way across town to pick them up and deliver them to me. Apparently the guy who was on my route didn't have car trouble. He was just lazy. He saw that I had 17 bags of groceries and he didn't want to do a delivery that large so he just didn't.

I think it's still the same driver on this route too. The guy who delivered said that the usual guy was "swamped". Which I highly doubt.

I'd be more than mad. I hope you didn't let them get away with it, I'd be for getting my delivery fee returned.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I've had groceries delivered at times when I've been sick and couldn't/shouldn't go out... (once here in Portland with Safeway and shouldn't drive, then several times in Chicago when I'd have had to walk to the grocery store and was sick... that was with Peapod)

I would order them online and set up the delivery time... They delivered within the window of time I chose.

Honestly, I would not only demand a refund of the delivery fee, but I'd recommend having them looking into this 'regular guy's' ability to do his job. Any and every time he f***s up, report his sorry bee-hind. There is no excuse. You'd think they'd have caught on by now... with all of his lame 'excuses'.

Seriously, make a formal complaint to the store. If enough people complain, or the complaints start stacking up, they'll probably take it more seriously.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with this sytem since I'm not from the US... but you go grocery shopping at the store and pay to have it delivered to your house?

Why would you do that? And hows does that work?

I'm just curious since I've never heard about that before !

Sometimes, it's medically necessary, such as if you can make the trip but your health prevents you from being able to drag large amounts of groceries home (especially if there's stairs involved... it's not easy even for some of us who ARE physically able...)

Sometimes, like when I did it, I was sick with a flu or severe head cold and needed medicine, so I ordered groceries (and lots of juice and stuff) to be delivered. It beats making myself sicker by going out and braving the elements (if it's the middle of winter in Chicago and you're sick, don't go outside unless it's an emergency!)

It's also good for those who are elderly and don't have the ability to carry their groceries (or who do not/cannot drive but cook a lot)

Does this help?

Amanda
