So I got a FREE new one instead!

So...I may be whining a bit about not understanding Vista, blah blah blah, but I'm really excited!

(Oh, I can't post links, it brings up a new window - anyone have any ideas why that would happen?) But it's an HP Pavilion dv9335 NR. VERRY nice. And thank goodness I'm back from being computer-less for about a week. Whew!

Crud - I haven't figured out multi-quoting yet - Natalie CA - I had an HP Pavilion 7000 - and it had been to the shop 2 or 3 times to get the mother board replaced because the internal power connector would disconnect from the mother board. And it was in the shop again a few months ago, but I can't remember exactly why (blocking it out, probably), and just last week, we couldn't get it to boot at all. So we got it replaced because of the "no lemon law." YAY.

Roimata - I couldn't get anything but Vista.
And I'm really worried because I run Adobe Creative Suite...and I DON'T want to buy CS3 just because they forced me to get Vista. I totally can't afford that, LOL.

Vista is the most terrible version microsoft has come up with yet, it is designed to be "secure" but it is so secure that as Roimata said it it not compatible with very much at all
.

kluchetta, You maybe able to downgrade to windows xp. Do a search on the net to find out if it can be done.

All the best

Maybe you can find someone with a windowsXP Cd to borrow? I have one, but it's for a Dell and I don't know if you could use it or not.....don't know if it would work.
it's actually a resource cd

I have Vista on my new computer, and found that a lot of the companies have found fix-arounds for Vista. Visit the web-site to see if there is a solution there. I had to download a new driver for my printer because it wouldn't work with Vista, but no problem now. I actually like it now that I'm getting used to it. However, while you can't remove Vista from the computer, you can apparently reinstall XP overtop of it - at least that's what the tutorial on my computer said. I decided not to because I was determined to conquer the Vista!

Though I love XP and am very happy with it, the laptops I just bought for my kids in colleges have Vista on them. In fact, my daughter is required to have a laptop and it is required to have Vista.
I hate having to get it during the first year, but set it up for the automatic updates so it will be as issue free as possible.
And back up all of you important files.

I would think twice about loading in XP. One you lose some memory by having two operating sytems on the computer and the possibilities for conflict between the two operating systems is huge.

My younger son is making a list of some of the differences between XP and Vista. Primarily the things that were on there for XP and omitted, harder to find or not as user friendly in Vista. He thinks they will be back to the XP way in the next operating system - and advertised as an imporvement.

The only thing I really hate is reinstalling all my software. Ugh. Vista is kinda cool so far, and they say on their site (I think) that there is compatibility with Adobe products. So we'll see! I do have to find my Office discs, which I cant find right now.
