Yes, we HAD to go see it last night too.
Much to my personal dismay because I had a TON of stuff to do, but Transformers rates over all else apparently. Even an upset wife.
It was big and loud. If that's what you expect, that's definitely what you'll get.
Earl liked it a lot, and there was big applause at the end of the movie - probably even more than the applause at the end of Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith.
That said, and I may have been coloured by being irritated at having to go in the first place, but I was not terribly impressed. Transformers didn't interest me 20+ years ago, and they still don't. For being 2 1/2 hours long, there wasn't much of any depth to the movie or the characters/robots, except Bumblebee. I liked him. There was one scene that kinda touched on it (giant robots trying to hide from parents - that was actually pretty funny!), but the rest was just typical Micheal Bay big and loud.
Earl did say that what he was disappointed about was that there wasn't a lot of interaction between the Autobots, like there was in the cartoon. (What I called character development
) He said in the cartoon it was about 90% robot/10% human, but in the movie it was about 60/40%.
So overall - if you're looking forward to the movie, and like big and loud, you'll probably like the movie. If you're totally anal about Transformers, could go either way. If you're being forced to see it by someone who is totally anal about Transformers and you could care less, don't expect to have your mind completely changed in 2 1/2 hours.
