My 3 year old cat found a small chipmunk and killed it about 10 days ago. Within the past 2-3 days he's lethargic, eats just a little bit and hides under the bed most of the day. He's not Mr. Social usually but he does like to be around us most of the time.
What kinds of diseases could he catch from a rodent? He didn't show any signs of being bitten or anything after he killed it. We live in Colorado.
Thank you.

You need take him to a vet as soon as possible. You should call an emergency vet and explain what is going on. He can tell you if it is important he goes to the vet tonight or if the cat can wait until morning. Either way, you need to take him to the vet soon. There are so many diseases cats can get from killing rodents.

I hope it is nothing serious and let us know what the vet says.

That's what I'd be worried about also. I think most rat poisons contain warfarin (or coumadin), which interferes w/ blood coagulation -- the treatment in people is intramuscular injection of vitamin K -- probably the same treatment for cats, but see a vet ASAP. The symptoms in the poisoned rodent-eater (cat) won't be obvious...

"Most of the time external bleeding is not obvious and one only notices the pet is weak and/or cold. If one looks at the gums, they are pale. Sometimes bloody urine or stool is evident or nose bleeds may be seen. Signs of bleeding in more than one body location are a good hint that there is a problem with blood coagulation and appropriate testing and treatment can be started."

GOOD LUCK!
