Quick question!

Can an orphaned kitten that is 5-6 weeks be vaccinated? I know typically it is 8 weeks, but if she is all alone and hasn't had a mom near her in weeks and I would like to let her interact with other kitties, can I do it a little early or is it too risky?

I think around her they start doing actual vaccinations at 6 weeks old. Talk to your vet, it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I'd call the vet - if the kitten has no immunity from mom, then some vets will start vaccinations at 6 weeks instead of 8 weeks.

Ok thanks, I will call and double check. I was vaccinating the rest of the crew just a little bit ago and I got to the orphans and I was like hmmmm. So I will wait until tomorrow when I can call the vet and ask first!

They vaccinated my cat when he was 4 weeks old. The vet didnt' call it a vaccine though, he called it a booster. Not quite sure if there is any difference, but he said that since the kitten was abandoned, it didn't have any maternal antibodies and therefor needed a booster. Then he got his regular sets starting at 8 weeks old.

Definitely ask your vet about it. My vet has vaccinated at 6 weeks old many times. If I can find the papers on it, I'll tell you what's in it but I know it's not the same as a full vaccine.
