Hi, this is my first post and I have come to you all needing some advice. I picked up a kitten yesterday (about 6 weeks old) that has infection in both eyes. Her little eyes were practically glued shut from oozing, etc. I stopped by the vet with her and they agreed her eyes were in bad shape. They possibly are ruptured, but it was hard to tell with all the infection. They gave me some triple antibiotic ointment to put in three times a day and they have improved. She can keep them open now, and she can see, but I don't think very well. Her third eyelid comes over part of her eye in each eye and there is pink lesion like thing on each eyeball itself. I don't know if there is any hope for her. She is so sweet and otherwise normal. I can't afford a lot of surgery. (I already have three cats and five dogs.) If her eyes are ruptured, what can be done, or does anything have to be done? Could she live a normal life as is when the infection is cleared up? I am to bring her back in a few days to the vet. They also mentioned she could have Aids or leukemia so I am keeping her quarantined. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jenny

I don't have any experience with it but bless your heart for taking care of that little darling!
and good healing vibes sent your way.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help you out. Best of luck.

thank you for your kind words, catsarebetter. I decided I couldn't wait any longer and took the baby to the vet this morning and had her tested for FIV and leukemia. Fortunately they were negative, so now we can concentrate on getting her eyes better. Since she can see some, they said she might not necessarily need her eyes removed if they are ruptured, as long as we can get rid of the infection and get them healed. Right now it is still too soon to tell if they have ruptures or not. The vet says they seen some amazing things as far as kitten eyes healing, though.

If her eyes have ruptured and their is no infection they can just sew the eyes shut and they will heal over. If she can see though I dont think her eyes have ruptured. I dont think she would be able to see. Good luck with her!

That's what I am hoping, Fostermomm. That seems reasonable.
