Ok, I'm not sure if I posted in the right section. I really just posted here to see what other members think of this idea...

What if...we had a Buddy System? What I mean is where certain members can volunteer for a certain category to help out other members.

Here's an example of the Buddy System:

1. New members- if you are a new member and have a question about anything on TCS then you can look at the buddy system. You would find someone online, and PM them. They can then help you out with your problem as much as they can. Then you wouldn't have to post and wait for someone to answer. You would have immediate results from someone online at that very moment.

2. Signatures- if you have questions about signatures, you just PM the buddy system to ask questions. I know there is a signature forum already, but maybe someone doesn't want to post their question publicly. They may need one on one help

3. Pregnant and cat care- if you need one on one advice FAST! You can PM someone that is online, and you can get some help. It would be someone that has experience and can help you!

4. Typing/grammer- if you think you need someone to help edit your posts to make sure you have typed everything right, then you can PM someone for quick help. (Yes, I got this idea off of a recent thread here in TCS
)

Ok, you get the point. I know we can go to the topic already and just ask a question for everyone to answer. Some people want more personal help, one on one. This also gives people a chance to get to know eachother. Noone would have to be an expert to be on the buddy system, just dedicated members of TCS that want to make a difference.

What do you guys think?

Isn't this up to the Admins of the board to decide? I would think an idea like this should be PMed to them, than up for suggestions by members. It's not our call to make.

We already have Mentors here that take care of that.

We have two Signature Helpers for Signature questions.

Gaye has been working on the Pregnant Cat Buddy Network:

Tricia is excellent with this.
There is also a spellcheck option that can be downloaded. You can find more info about it in this thread:

Some browsers have automatic spell-check for all text boxes (ie, this one) as well.

I hate it and can't turn it off, but I must say if I couldn't spell it would be useful.

I would say that a team member is more likely to be on at any point than the buddy and as our names are bolded in the who is online section on the main page, team members are easier for new people to spot.

Also the logistics of setting up a system would be ridiculous, what if the longer term member leaves suddenly, or is paired up with someone they don't get along with. What about minors who don't have PMs but can email a mod on their TCS email. It just works better the way things are.

And to be totally honest, a long term member could be less TCS savvy than a newbie who knows their way around forums in general.

I am not sure how many questions the mentors get, but I got 5 PMs already today about sigs. People see our badges and don't feel the need to post publicly, they do PM us.
