Hello, I have a cat who is sick as well as two new lovebirds which I have no idea how to tame. I'll tell you about the cat first,
Her name is Mimi and she seems to have a cold. She sneezes a lot and coughs sometimes and her eyes have green stuff coming out of them. I'm going to take her to the vet soon but until then I would like some help to make her feel a bit better. And to keep all the other five cats from getting sick as well.
As for the birds,
one is called V and the other is called peach-face (a.k.a mango). V is a female and peach-face is her mate. They were kind of breeding birds at first and they got three babies, the first two were Kiwi and Jr.Mango (though he looks nothing like him.) then a while after they got one more baby, Merdaka who was born on a Malay... um... well I think it's a holiday or something...
Anyway, the mother is quite tame but she bites RREEEEAAALLLYYY hard. So hard that it makes you bleed sometimes. Peach-face though is scared stiff of people and goes crazy if you put your hand in the cage.

Please help, Chiyo.

You'll need to take Mimi into the vet ASAP. It sounds as though she has an upper respitory infection- that will be way more difficult and expensive to treat down the road. Keep all the other cats seperated from her until the vet says she is ok. Upper resp. infections are highly contagious! Make sure you wash your hands and forearms- and change clothes after being with her. This will lessen the possibility of it spreading to the others.

Sorry, I have no experience with birdies. Good luck with them though

Please keep us updated on miss Mimi

Ditto, that is awesome advise! Also, upper resp. infections are more common than they seem. They are easily treated with anitbiotics, and possibly eye ointment. The longer they have it, the worse it gets.

Definitely take her to the vet!

This is a long shot but I'm just wondering - did Mimi's symptoms start before or after you got the birds? Because the same bacteria causes both avian and feline chlamydiosis (a type of upper respiratory infection) as well as (rarely) psittacosis in humans, birds can carry it for years without showing symptoms but will periodically shed the bacteria in their droppings. When bringing new birds in you should have an avian specialist test them for chlamydiosis as a matter of course, as many birds carry it especially if they have come through aviaries or pet shops.

As far as taming your birds, you have to be patient. Dim the lights slightly, sit on the floor while they are in their cage, and talk to them softly. Play them some soft music or leave the radio on quietly, tuned in to a talk station. When you put your hand in, hold a nice treat and stay perfectly still, don't chase them around the cage. Signing up to a bird forum for advice is a good idea. Good luck with them!

No she had this before the birds came... I think about three days before. But you see the vet that used to work nearby moved to another location and we are looking for a closer one because its a hmm... I think a 45min drive.
