I have been using a comb on Persi every day and give him a most vigorous combing. As far as Alley goes, it never occurred to me to do more than just run a brush over her once or twice a week. This morning I had Persi's comb handy when Alley came to visit me. I decided to try and use the comb on her. I was shocked beyond belief! I never would have believed that I could have combed so much hair out of her. I got a whole handful, which I would have never thought possible. And she did not complain, so I think my daily routine now needs to include combing her (how often?) The brush I have could never have got all that hair and old hair. But I do realize that since she is a short hair that she does not need the same combing that Persi does, but I see now that I still have a lot to learn about cats!

IMO they can get rid of ALL the brushes. I've also used combs of various sizes on shorthairs - combs get a lot more fur out. For my rexes, the show grooming consisted of a once over with the very fine toothed flea comb. And I'd get a very small ball of fur - about the size of a fingernail

I've always used a fine tooth comb on the shorthairs and a wider tooth for longhair. I use a flea comb on Demetri because Oci fur is so short.
