Sash has been constantly licking his back lately, he scratches sometimes and bites at his paws too, but mainly concentrates on licking his back. We did have a problem with fleas a few months ago, but that is cleared up now so I'm confused at what all this is still coming from.

He's always had allergies to pollen and ragweed and lately the windows have been open more, does this suggest pollen allergies or could it be food allergies? I'm confused at what could be making him lick so much. He eats a variety of dry and canned food, all premium.

No, I've used Cat Country organic litter for a few years now, it's a wheat based litter. It's funny though, a lot of times after he gets out of his litter box he does seem more irritated and itchy. I just hate to change it on him, he's so used to this one and I just don't know for sure what could be causing this problem. I guess it could be the litter.

I just asked because I went through something similar with Beandip recently. In his case it was corn litter. But with us, we had just switched and he started doing the constant licking just a day or so later...so it was pretty clear what it was.

I hope you're able to figure it out.

Thank you I hope so too, it's driving me crazy! We were so sure it was coming from the fleas, but I don't think so now.

I think I would apply a flea treatment just in case.
But of course it could be allergies also. Have you changed any foods.
My cat was licking like mad also when I went to corn litter (WBL)
I loved it, but she licked so much she got rodent lip.
I am going to try wheat litter mixed in and see how that works instead.
I want to go to something organic.
