5 New Kittens :)

Delphine had her last kitten just before midnight I actually am not 100% sure she is done but I think she thinks she's done because as soon as the last one was out and for the most part cleaned up, she took a nap.

At first her nipples were dry and I can't explain how they were just NOT sticking out at ALL. I was concerned there was something wrong with her. Finally we got one of the nipples to push some milk out and I think maybe the kitten nursing on that nipple somehow got the other nipples pumping or something. Or maybe the kittens just needed her to lie still enough long enough for them to get the nipples working.

I did have to help detach three of the five kittens from her. The last two kittens she was just so tired with she didn't even eat their after birth. But as soon as she was done she was purring like crazy and making her little nests. She has not left them yet. I did feed her some wet food and added some extra water that she ate / drank a little bit of.

I'm worried she seems to be lying on the kittens sometimes when she moves. Will they usually crawl out from under the momma or is this something I need to worry about?

I'll post pics when I can but it might be a few days.

Yay! So glad everything went well and that she started to produce milk for the kittens. BTW I'm just curious how much time went by between each kitten? Ginger is due any day now and the vet told me to call them if it takes longer than 30 mins between each kitten but I feel that might be a bit too soon to call so I'm trying to get an idea of when I would be comfortable with based on everyone elses experiences.

There was probably a good 40 minutes between the first and the second kitten. I actually do not know when the first kitten actually came out, but Delphine came upstairs with the kitten hanging by the cord at at about 10:15 pm.

It went very quickly for Delphine. Between the 1st and the 2nd was the longest wait, and the 4th and the 5th was the shortest wait. I had to cut the cords of #1, #4, and #5.

They are all resting comfortably right now.

BTW here is Delphine the night before last-- I did not think she was ready yet nor that she'd have 5!

Kalli did that too, I always pullled them out when I was there, but when I wasnt they got out themselves i'm assuming. We still have all of them , so I wouldnt worry too much
