I'd love to hear stories about your first kitty, the one who stole your heart for the first time!

I got Kitty-Cat when I was three years old. We were visiting cousins in Corpus Christi and their cat had kittens. I remember picking out a little tortie with one tiny white paw. It was love at first sight.
I was suprised she didn't even pee on me when I held her the two-hour drive home. I remember thinking what a good kitty!

I was one of four neglected and abused children, and I didn't realize until many years later how important Kitty-Cat's unconditional love was to me. Just touching her fur calmed me and made me happy. She let me dress her up in doll dresses and a bonnet, and put a blanket over her and push her in the doll stroller - all in the Texas heat.

She's been gone for decades, but I still think about her and miss her and cry. I'm convinced was an angel sent to earth to be with a little girl who desperately needed someone to love her. RIP my dear Kitty-Cat.

Thanks for listening. Do you have a story, too?

Mittens was my first kitty but he didn't like me, he was more my mom's kitty.
He occasionally would cuddle if I was on the couch already. He died of kidney failure.

Now our second kitty was Gus-Gus. He had a spunky personality. Jumped out of the shower while you were using the toilet. He would sit on the edge of the tub while you showered. He loved taking walks with his lease & loved our neighbors dog. He would hide in my school bag hoping I would take him along. He would get said when I left for college and ran to me when I came for visits.
He would cry at the window when our neighbor came home from work each day. It really sounded like he was saying "earl".

heh I just got my first cat a few days ago, his name is Tiger and hes pretty much the coolest cat ever

I woke up today and he was sleeping on my keyboard in the funniest position, his tail was hanging down the edge of the desk and one of his paws was on the mouse, it looked like he was working all night on something important and fell asleep on the keyboard

I went from living in a house with no cats (just dogs) to getting married and living with my exhubbies at the time two cats. Tiger a brown tabby that hated me with a passion. She would attack me all the time. She was/is a love bug to my ex though. Shes his baby. Then there was Rose a little siamese girl that was totally insane! She mostly didnt want to be messed with by anyone but then would get super sweet and then she would attack. We later on added two more cats and niether one liked me to much.

When I was growing up, I lived in an apartmet complex where we weren't allowed to have any pets. I was homeschooled and had a mother that wouldn't really let me socialize with any other kids... so I had no friends. I wasn't even allowed to walk on grass until I was 7 or 8... so I just sat on the porch all day with my stuffed animals. I remember one day (I was about 5 years old) sitting there on the porch being lonely, when a pretty little orange cat came up to me. I went in and got her some milk and she sat on the porch with me until I had to go inside. She started coming around every day. No one knew who she belonged to, but everyone in the apartment complex started feeding her. She came to visit me all the time. I named her "Cookie". There were a couple really mean 5th grade kids that lived across the street. They were notorious cat killers and no one ever did anything about it. One day Cookie disappeared and I didn't see her for about a week. I called for her every day. One day, after calling for her for about 20 minutes, she came limping to me. She had been shot 29 times with a BB gun and was near death. But she found the strength to come sit with me one last time. A neighbor called animal control, and I sat and held her until they got there. They told the neighbor that they'd have to put her to sleep because she was beyond saving. I cried for hours after they took her away. My best friend was gone. The two boys later admitted to shooting the cat and were actually put into the juvenile jail for several months.
I still miss my Cookie-cat.

I can't remember my first kitty I was very young. But my mom did write about it in my baby book. My mom knew I had a passion for cats and got me a white kitty. She wrote one day it had gotten out of the house and never came back. I guess I was very upset about that, but I have no memory of it.

my first cat i had for 24 years. I got him in kindergarten. We went to the pet store to buy a Hermit crab they didnt have any but they had this very cute grey kitten.

I just had to have it and was prepard to throw a tantrum. I didnt have oo. We took him home and named him Ernie. Yes after sesame street.

Ernie got me through so much growing up. I dont know what I would have done with out him. He always knew when I needed him and anytime I cried he was right there. With all the things that I went through gorwing up there were times I wanted to kill myself but didnt just cause of him.

I used to dress him up in doll clothes and drive him around in the basket on my bicycle. He would never bite or scracth anyone no matter how much ear pulling or what ever.

After 24 years with him putting him to sleep was the hardest thing I had to do. I had 3 brothers pass away and to lose him was like loosing another family member.

He was so old though he couldnt make it to the litter box anymore. He also got really skinny and you could tell he wasnt enjoying life like he used to I know I made the right decission but I still think of him.

I also think im still waiting for another cat just like him.

I know my mother had cats when I was a baby but I don't remember them. The first cat I remember was Sir Tricker Treat or Tricker for short. He was a large orange male cat. I was about five years old.

He wondered up to my dad on Halloween night as he was giving out candy. When my mom, brother and I got home from Tricker Treating he was sitting on my dads lap just as happy as could be.

We looked for his owners and asked around but nobody knew where he came from so we kept him.

He was sort of a strange cat. He liked green olives. We would take one out of the fridge and roll it and he would chase it, bat it, roll all over it and then eat it. He also liked to ride on my dads shoulders.

We had him for quite a long time until one day he just disappeared. We assume he went off to die. We didn't know how old he was and my parents were kind of ignorant about taking him to the vet. He never had any of his shots nor was he ever neutered.

I have a black and white picture of him in my cedar chest. I will have to scan it and post it in fur pictures some day.

He started my dad on liking cats. He would not let us have a dog but after that Halloween we always had a cat. He liked sit in his garage and day dream and the perfect companion for that is a good old lap cat.

My first cat was Pokey, he was a stray that I had found on the street. I was 12 years old. I brought him home and made up a fake story about some kids chasing him with a stick.

This worked only because someone had spray painted him blue. He had a blue eye and a blue stripe on his back and belly.

He was supposed to stay in my room only but then he killed a mouse one day and my mom fell in love with him.

Unfortionately he life span was short. He was FELV positive, but his last year of life was the best. Nothing but fresh shrimp and Tuna for this cat.

We have never been catless since him.

This picture about explains it all:

There is no reason my princess is alive today, deaf, mommy tried to kill her, ran over multiple times(she has one bowed back leg, that's it).... She doesn't purr, doesn't much like to be held or sit in laps...she's just sorta "there". But she was "there" for me through so much, I love her more than words can possibly express.

My family already had 2 cats when I was born. Toby was a siamese who died at age 20 when I was 6. Friskie who died at 23 when I was 17.

The first cat to call my own was Patches. I was like 7. He was a feral born outside. Him and my brother socialized with him and his brother Spot. They were BOTH nice kitties. We would pretend to be a cat family. LOL Patches let me push him all around the yard in a stroller, hold him like a baby, etc. He was hit by a car later when I was about 10 during the night....I cried my eyes out.

My first kitty as an adult was Summer.

Oh my goodness "bnwalker2" You just made me cry!
Thats such a sad story but I am so glad you both had each other even if it was for a short time. I feel the need to hug my cats.

My first cat Skittles was not the most sociable of animals and in fact was down right vicious at times. She would often walk past my daughter who would have been about 7 at the time and take a swipe at her then run off! I thought she was annoying the cat until I saw her do it for myself and it was completley unprovoked! Strange kitty.
She didnt like to be stroked and wasnt much of a lap cat, hated it if you touched her belly and would think nothing of biting but when she was killed by a fox last year we were all devestated and I cried and cried.

I miss her. X

Krazy was about three years of age when I got her from the shelter and she lived 17 years with me. She was a Calico like my present Alley, who was also about three when we got her. Here is hoping for 17 more years!

Cream puff my first cat we grew up together my only long hiaired cat to date. She was such a lover, I'm sure she was at the end of her nine lives by the time she was stolen from our front porch when I was 6. They took her off her lead and just walked away with her! She was kinda acedent prone.. like when she found out her tail was flamable
... or that jumping from the top of the steps to catch a fly was perhaps not the brightest idea. I'll miss my cream puff but she paved the way for many beloved cats in my life!

I got my OWN first cat back in February of this year. I went to Petco to get some supplies for my big kitty and I decided to browse over to the kitties for adoption (you know just to look), well there she was, her markings where beautiful and she was still pretty little for 6 months. I held her for about 2 hours while I talked with the agency (she was shaking at first, but I was the only person she would let hold) it was like we were meant to be. They weren't sure they were going to adopt her because she was extremely timid (feral farm kitty) and had been through so much with her TNR experience, barn life, being spayed, and having all her shots just recently. It took me almost 2 months for her to be completely comfortable with me. She is a one person cat and only loves her mama, not even daddy. She went from being so timid and terrified to very playful with my other cat (now they arent getting along anymore) and very loving with me. She is great natured and very loving... Cuddles with me in bed, sits on my lap while Im on the comp, comes when I call her, sits on my lap when Im on the toilet (lol), and always rubbing her face all over mine. I was always a dog person until I got my two cats.

My poly (who I had before her) is actually my bf's cat... Though I consider him mine as well, he isn't completely. He is just like garfield, attitude and all.

Great thread!

Nina was our first family cat. She was supossed to be named Dinah, but I couldn't say it when I was 2. I don't remember much about her except my Mother would complain that Nina was trying to trip her down the stairs.

Salty was my first cat. He was a little gray cat that my Dad found on his fishing boat. Like some others here, I used to dress him up in baby clothes and put him in my doll carridge. We would go all over the neighborhood until Salty got bored with it. He would jump out and run home still dressed in doll clothes with a baby bonnet on.

We had a family friend watch him when we went on vacation. She let him out and we never saw him again. My heart was so broken, not knowing if he was dead or alive. I was 5 or 6 years old and felt so very bad that he must have thought I abandoned him.

About a week later our front door was open to our house because it was so hot. A cat came in and had kittens in our bathtub. I know that God knew I needed a cat.

I have loved cats since I can remember and always will.

That's heartbreaking! She must have loved you a lot though to make it back to see you one last time.

Everyones got such good stories. I dont remember the first two cats my mom had when I was born. I just remember one of them being fat and grey....The first cat that I do remember was Fergie a tortie who was a snuggly sweetheart. She got pregnant and had kittens and then one day they disappeared. *To this day my mom wont tell me that she gave them away to homes* But then one day my mom and dad went out and my babysitter accidentally let Fergie out and I watched her get hit by a car. That was horrible. When we moved to Fort Bragg was when we got Georgie and Erma butt the terrible duo, which ended up being rehomed by the army. Geez now that I think about it my mom is a cat addict! After the destructive kitties we went on to have Hugo (my moms friend still has him), Spooks (h.b.c), Sophie (cancer), Gimp (disappeared) and Pickles who ran away with Gimp. Supposidly the last two are living in Norry next door to my ex.

Where my cats are
My frirst cat was named Christmas Tinsel, just Tinsel for short. We adopted her when I was 2. I have some vauge memories of around the time we adopted her. My Aunt adoped her brother Heithcliff.

Tinsel was so good with me! I do remember getting scratched and things when she was small, but I probably deserved it!
Poor Tinny got her tail caught in our apartment door twice so it was a bit shorter than it had been.

One funny thing I remember was when my Mom, Grandma and I had gone to Disney world Grandpa took care of her. Well I guess in the week or so that we were gone she grew an awful lot...because when we got home I distinctly remember crying and standing on the kitchen chair thinking she was a different cat!
I can still picture her walking from the stairs through the living room with an expression on her face that said "Whats wrong with the kid!?!"

I miss my Tinny.
She was a good cat. We lost her when she was about 12 years old. I don't remember what happend exactly, but she was sick.
