Do kittens wean themselves, or does mom do it? the ones i have here are 5 weeks old today, and they seem to not want anything to do with mom anymore, they have been eating wet and dry food since 3 1/2 weeks, when i first offered it due to them being on the bigger side.

All but Tess eat wet and dry food fine, and use the litterbox like clockwork. Tess is a bit of a baby, and wants human babyfood mixed with 2nd stage KMR and NutriCal. But she dosent want mom,lol

maybe mum isnt producing enough milk to fill them up? fluffys kittens started trying food at about the same time , but that was because i offered it as i did have to stand in to help feed them as fluffy really doesnt seem to want much to do with them, they will be 5 weeks old on sataurday, all useing litter box and have been for a week now.when they try to nurse of mum she will just walk away. or if she does stay there they will nurse no more then 5 mins then latch of. but all are fully weened and litter trained.
i wouldnt worry about it as long as their eating and drinking plenty everything should be fine.

Thats odd, mine are almost 4 weeks old and they havent even started to be litter box trained. When should I start to worrk if mom isnt doing this? Or weaned. and they eat is moms milk and they eat for 1/2 hours at a time usually. She hardly ever leaves them and when she does she takes breaks right next to the box,(usually to let them sleep) or uses the litter box, or eat.
When do you start trying to wean them , or step in or what?
Sorry if i'm jacking your thread..

dont worry they will in good time, you shouldnt need to start weening untill 5-6 weeks , you can start with the litter training now if you like , but its normally easier once they start to eat soilds. just leave a low sided litter box with none clumping litter in . they should get the idea from mum. some mums just wasnt ment to be mums , are the kittens just like to be a bit more inderpendent from a earlier age.

Okay. But I was reading the www.kitten-rescue.com website, and On the sides where it says the ages, I was specifically reading those. And it seems like my kittens are beihind. Because the first kittens that started to openits eyes was 10 days old I believe, and the rest of them followed after that. Then when the kittens were 2-3 weeks old, they couldnt pur or really walk around at all. And the mother was and is still stimulating them. Now that they are at 4-5 weeks old, they are no where close to the size of the black and white kitten in the picture on there.
Should i be worried?

no that site is just a guide. all my kittens have been over the weight on there guidelines. that is just the basics and what to look out for.
again kittens progress at different speeds. annes litter there eyes didnt open untill11-14 days old. fluffys litter started opening their eyes at only 5 days old. one of annes kittens wouldnt touch soild food untill past 6 weeks old. where as fluffys started just before 4 weeks old.

Skyes kittens were always ahead of things they were supposed to do at each age. But they were about a week behind in size. So it looked really funny seeing these tiny little kittens running and pouncing perfectly when at their size they should have been stumbling still.

Bwahaha! Too funny!

Bestia's kittens were big suck ups(literally). If mama wouldn't give them anytihg, then they'd go to auntie Estrella(she had lost her litter and so she adopted Bestia's kittens as her own), and if Auntie Estrella wasn't around, then, as a last resort, they'd go to daddy!LOL! I actually have a pic of Skitzo trying to get milk from Luna(the daddy), heehee.

Ok, well, it's really crappy quality cause I took the pic with my cellphone. I had to lighten it up, which made it look even worse, lol. Anyways, the black and white cat is Luna(aka "daddy") and the little gray thing attached to him is Skitzo, lol.

The funnies thing is that when Skitzo was "all done" there was a big wet ring around Luna's nipple and his poor little nipple was all red! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Keep in mind that in this pic Skitzo is 12 weeks old, so she had TEETH! Ouch!

Poor Luna.(I think he liked it, heehee)
